Fighter Ralph is back in the room. He's walking every day, needs to rest every few yards but admits he's going a bit further before getting so breathless. He's now even saying I'm having a walk without being asked. As yet, he isn't walking very far, but doing a few extra steps each day, so I'm proud of him.
He's also drying and putting away the washing up after I've washed them.
I'm not actually doing much extra for him at all now, he does his own nebuliser, cleans his trachy tube, no help from me in the bathroom except making sure he climbs into and out of the bath okay for his shower and wash his hair.
He picks out his clothes and dresses himself, only needs help tying his trainers.
We always took it in turns to cook and other one washed up. I am doing all the cooking but that's fine.
As I said last time, we'd had 2 nurses in last week, 1 for trachy and 1 for RIG. Both at the end of the phone. Dietician rang yesterday, checking on him and seemed happy with what I'm feeding him, lol
Waiting for appointment some time this month with ent to change his tube.
Have appointment with GP Friday afternoon and pick up prescription.
RIG nurse says they'll ring in a few weeks to change his RIG but that can be done by them at home.
We are sleeping really well now as well and that makes a HUGE difference.
I'm feeling a lot more relaxed and confident now....hope that doesn't jinx it....
We CAN and ARE doing this!
Thanks for all your support and encouragement ๐ชโค๏ธ๐

Fabulous news! So pleased to hear Ralphโs progress. Itโs been such a long road - but youโre getting there. Enjoy this time. You both deserve to. โค๏ธโ๐ฉน
Itโs so good to hear you are both getting along great. Ralph is amazing at the things he is doing and mentally it will help him to move forwards and not dwell on his awful experience. Good to hear you are happier and getting a good nights sleep at last. No more laborious daily hospital visits, so you can relax much more. Happy days to come. God bless.
OMG such wonderful news. Unbelievable really since what you have both been going through. I have to pinch myself and read this post again and again. Ain't life wonderful. Ain't the body a miraculous healing things. Ralph has set his compass points on recovery at 100 per cent. It really is unbelievable. I will never forget this post. In fact I will print it out and put on on my fridge door! XXX
The kick up the backside that I sent him mentally must have worked Brilliant news, and I'm really pleased he is doing his bit around the house! The more he does the stronger he will get both physically and mentally - I can do these things xx
Such good news .I'm so pleased for you both ๐ sometimes it just takes a little time for things to fall into place. Sounds like Ralph has got his head in the right place which can take time and only he can do it can't be forced. I hope things keep moving in the right direction and that you have a beautiful summer together xx
Love your post, so pleased to hear things are settling into a more normal home routine together! I knew you would get there, it was just a matter of time. Hugs to you both, I have a very big smile on my face now ๐ โค๏ธ
Ah wow! You have both found a rhythm in such a short space of time. It's fantastic! Brilliant you're both sleeping well, it's the key to so many good outcomes isn't it? It gives us all, I'm sure, real inspiration and hope in our own situations. Sending abundant good wishes your way for good health, happiness, humour and love, as you rebuild your future together. Your friends and family must be so happy to see where you are now! XX
bloody fantastic news sue . It sounds like Ralph just needed to get his confidence back a bit. Iโm so pleased for your both . I know itโs early days and baby steps , but it definitely sounds as if things are going well x
Thank you so much for your update. Great that things are going so well . Getting a good night sleep makes all the difference . Lots of love to you both x
Brilliant ๐ It's motivation your husband needs Gardenview, something to look forward to ๐ My experience was not illness but tenancy eviction after 15 years! I experienced an extreme lack of motivation for 3 weeks and I pined for my home after I moved to a ground floor flat! Thank goodness I have a tiny garden which lets me enjoy the sunshine outside! Give your husband a reason to live despite everything! Gently Spurn him as if he is in a race! He will thank you for it later ๐ฅฐ
Wow. Amazing news. I am really pleased for you both. Itโs crazy isnโt it how we take the little things in life for granted. I bet you donโt anymore. ๐ฉท You both deserve this. ๐ธโค๏ธโ๐ฉน
oh so happy for you both. The sleep will make a huge difference and it sounds like youโre both more relaxed. It must have been nerve wracking at first at home. Wishing you both all the best on Ralphโs healing journey.
Hi Sue, I bought my husband who also struggled with walking one of those little step counters that attaches to trouser belt loops. It worked as a great incentive when he could see the few extra steps he'd taken at the end of each day. Great to read Ralph settling back in at home.
Wow! That's fantastic! He's so strong (& so are you!) I'm so happy for you both, after everything you've been through, it's amazing to see the recovery that Ralph's making now. The fight & will that he has is fabulous. No wonder you're feeling better now especially being able to sleep again. You're both superstars to us on this forum so thanks so much for keeping us updated as I'm pretty sure we all think about you both. Hopefully, the weather will improve soon so Ralph can get back out into the garden ๐ Sending love to you both โค๏ธ Carolyn xx
A lovely read and I am so pleased that you are both finding positive ways forward. Long may it continue and I hope Ralph continues with his amazing recovery. All the best xx
This is great news and so good to hear that Ralph is doing so well and you are feeling more relaxed. We all feel so much better when we sleep well. Best wishes to you both look forward to your next post. Take care ๐๐X
Ha, now you are going to start worrying heโs doing too much and too fast and over exerting himselfโฆ
Seriously congratulations to you both. Settling back into home life together, Ralph getting more independent and more energised and you both feeling happy and rested. All great news.
That is wonderful and youโre such a special person, so glad Ralph is getting about, heโs obviously a fighter, youโre both an inspiration to us all๐
Brilliant news . So glad Ralph is doing and wanting to do more. And both of you getting a good night's sleep helps a lot. Being responsible for cleaning his equipment must make him feel proud he is being pro active. And it takes a weight off your shoulders.
You both have come a long way on a very hard journey together . But that's the power of love and being eachothers other half together you make a whole . And that is something to treasure . Some people live their whole lives and never know love like that and find the other half of themselves.
Those of us who have are very lucky to be loved and love in return. I was very lucky to have Nick for as long as I did. But my love for him has never faded or the grief . But at least we had eachother and loved our life together. True love never fades.
Hope Ralph goes from strength to strength. But with you by his side he will. ๐
That's the best possible post to read! Very well done to both of you and I'm delighted to hear you're able to sleep now - makes quite a difference. I have my op on Monday so by that time I will have memorised most of the post to sustain me. I'm so absolutely thrilled to hear of Ralph's progress. Fantastic. Love and hugs
Hi that is fantastic news so glad to hear that Ralph is now up and about and his fighting spirit is back. It's lovely that you are doing things together, even if it is just the dishes and you are getting a good night's sleep, which makes a huge difference when you still have a lot to cope with. Take care char xx
Soooo very happy for you both...and seems that being at home is making a huge difference as well as your care which is the best for him..he really has come a long way...I hope he can eventually get the tubes out totally..ie..the Trachy and the RIG...you have certainly come a long way...and will still be praying that Ralph will recover fully and that you will always have that extra strength that you now need...๐๐..good sleep helps a lot...
Lovely to hear that Ralph is doing so well! Also that there is some normality returning to your lives. Best wishes for Ralph continuing to grow in strength. ๐
