two great sources of information.

If you have high blood pressure, start with Blood Pressure zouk, the charity. Lots of information there.

And the NHS. Download the Free NHS Weight Loss Plan.

Get either of these by googling.

It’s important that you look after yourself by exercising. I don’t mean joining a gym - walking is a great exercise especially if you can do it in a park or the countryside.

It’s hard. I am also on beta blockers and I currently have a very sedentary lifestyle.

There are 2 parts of the equation - intake and output. My output is very low and this can’t always be altered so I have to listen to my body where, if I wasn’t living in this century, it would actually not want as much food because I’m not burning it off.

So I reduce what I eat. Look at everything you eat and reduce it. Usually eat a sandwich? Try it with one price of bread even if you have to eat it differently. Normally have orange juice or some other flavoured drink - swap it for water. Normally have a big bowl of stir- fry? Make it a smaller bowl. This is easier than trying to completely alter what you eat. If you can eliminate empty calories, that’s even better. But don’t make it hard. Assess what you eat normally and see where you can reduce or switch.

To help myself, I’ve switched the flat white to a piccolo, I’ve reduced the amount of fruit and yoghurt and also add with a visual trick of using a smaller bowl. My treat most days is mixed unsalted nuts with little dark choc bits stirred through. I get a handful of protein with some sweetness - it’s yum!

Have a look at the CSIRO cookbook range. It’s an Australian government agency which researches health. They’ve created a few fabulous dishes that are delish and very helpful for heart health and weight.

Agree with walking, try and have a few different routes to stop things becoming too repetitive. Weather is also a factor, if your walk is on non tarmac or paved paths. 5k daily works for me, and I use an Apple Watch to record my walks.

my weight gain was all fluid retention , I lost 3 stone in a months stay in hospital , now I have one water pill and restricted fluid intake , might be worth checking , I knew nothing about fluid retention .

I had lymphodema on both lower leg's 2017 where consultant thought I had dvt but it was water retention due to the above and had it and weight gain ever since from 17 St to 23 St and I can't shift it albeit go to Gym 3 time's a week cardio and strength training and walk 5 k a week, I can't lose the excess, I would like to know how you lost the weight which is brilliant as I was astonished as to how you did so well in losing it.

Ennasti has pretty much nailed it . Adjusting energy intake to match output is key. Make some conscious decisions on where you can cut calories to create a calorie deficit daily to account for a slower metabolic rate . Portion sizes , cutting down on calorie dense foods, literally moving more. Choosing leaner cuts of meat, lighter dairy foods , not having double carbohydrate meals (potatoes & bread at same meals for instance) , filling plate with veg/salad then lean protein , tea spoon of quality oil, then small amount of carbohydrate. Weigh out your rice, pasta , potatoes to see how much you are eating , work out how many calories that is roughly . People are always surprised how little amount of pasta /rice is to make up around 2-300 calories . Condiments like sauces /pickles contain high sugar /calories. I’ve stopped having sauces every day , swapped for low fat Greek yoghurt mixed with herbs /spices and occasional spas cream light. I’m on bisoprolol and ramipril (low doses ) clopidogrel, pantaprazole, Rosuvastatin, aspirin .. I’ve lost 8kg from coming out of hospital last July following quadruple CABG after Nstemi. It’s not rocket science. It takes consistency and a some choices plus a will to make those changes. 👍🏻

Your not alone in struggling to lose weight, mine is through water retention and I take 2 diuretic's as I have lymphodema where both lower leg's get very swollen and I exercise as on Bisoprolol 5mg per day since November 2023 so they make my body sometimes fatigued when at gym and it's a chore. I ain't been due to virus and back and neck nerve pain last 10 day's so I go for a walk instead at my own pace, so I would also say walk everyday if you can. Best of luck Gillw1978 👍

Slimming world. Honestly no joke. Im on bisoprolol and have very much struggled to lose weight. I joined slimming world and it works. Since last year I've lost nearly 2 stone. Ok I could of lost more but I'll hold my hands up and admit I fell off the wagon over christmas and new year. Oh and easter x

I’ll second that. I lost 4 stone on SW. once you get your head around the danger areas and realise that nothing is taboo (subject to guide lines) you can lose weight just sitting on the sofa

Its great once I knew my triggers and downfalls. Picking is my biggest problem.

Hello, I have hypertension and high cholesterol, not on the same medication as you, but do take some. I joined Slimming World (online) and lost 2 1/2 stone. I found them easy to follow, supportive and lots of advice - loads to eat just healthy eating really. Best wishes.

Hi,I think we all differ in what we think is the best way to lose weight. What works for one may not work dor another!! I would say following a healthyndiet where no foods are excluded is a good idea. So plenty of fruit and veg. Protein, carbs, milk and fat. I would say watch your saturated fats, try to avoid processed or junk food, rich sauces and gravy. It's quire a traditional diet but ine that was highly recommended to me after having a double cabg lsdt year. Good luck
