Ref to statins I've been taking Atorvastatin for approximately 15yrs ! unaware of muscle damage/ weakness but was aware of muscle pain which I didn't have I also take thyroxine 50mcgs daily. I became aware of my inability of going up stairs without having to lever myself up on the bannisters because my thigh muscles seem to be very weak I noticed this very early on but despite talking to my Gp who sent me for physio/ gym for excerise Earlier this year I saw about muscle weakness and decided to stop Atorvastatin I saw Gp and she didn't appear to be concerned as my blood test was normal but my cholesterol was up 5.3mmol I've been referred to physio who gave me exercises to strengthen my thigh muscles but I haven't felt any better So is or was the cause of this weakness due to Atorvastatin? I've stopped taking the statins 10weeks ago

You haven't told us how old you are and your general physical condition. Certainly as you age you lose muscle mass and that slowly accelerates, although you can slow things down by keeping active, and by weight management to help your body get about. As far as stopping statins and the impact of physio and the rebuilding of muscle mass that is something that will take time, although I would have thought you might have noticed a small improvement since you started. But if you haven't you need to stick with it, and give it more time and importantly follow the exercise regime as instructed by the physio and continue with it otherwise any benefit is lost.
