I'm asking this on behalf of a friend who recently had a triple bypass. He has been prescribed Amiodarone and asked me if I've been on that medication following my HA in 2020. He's interested in what people have experienced as side effects. I can't advise him because I've not been on that drug. Can anyone in our community help, please?
Thanks.

Hi there, I was on Amioderone in hospital and for 3 weeks after coming home, after aortic valve replacement… it was 3 x daily first week 2 x second week and one daily then stopped, it’s a potent drug that is very effective but you shouldn’t be on it too long as it can affect the kidneys…,I had no side effects from it.
hi I had to go on Amioderone I was on it 2 years it did keep my heart under control. But I couldn’t go in the sun which I love doing being a naturist it also effected my eyes. Then after the 2 years I felt unwell so went to the doctor and got sent for a blood test and it had given me an over active thyroid it was off the scale. The doctor told me to stop taking it and he gave me medication to get it back to normal. But now I’m getting AF episodes every day
I was on ameodrone as I had AFib after 3xCABG in December last. My HR shot up to 170+ at rest. It bought it under control after a couple of days. I was kept on it for about 6 weeks till it was deemed safe to come off. It is hugely beneficial short term but long term use can create other problems. You’re monitored very closely when you’re on it so don’t worry and everything will be fine
My problems started when I stopped amiodarone following an Ablation. After I stopped taking Amiodarone I developed an over active thyroid and lost 10 Kg and was constantly awake. Thyroid meds sorted that out.
I developed arrthymia issues and went back on to Amiodarone and then developed and Underactive thyroid. Now experiencing brittle nails, tiredness, muscle aches and always feel cold. Thyroid meds are helping.
Thanks everyone for taking the time to reply,. I've passed your experiences on to my friend for his info. Anonymously I should add - I've only sent your comments, not names/usernames etc.
