I am on Amiodarone 200 mg × 2 three times a dayIt is giving me extremely bad heartburn , my whole chest feels on fire

Last night I could not sleep it was so painful and today not much better

Has anyone else experienced this reaction ?

Can I take Omniprazole with Amiodarone ?

If so when is the best time ?

Any other tips or suggestions would be very , very welcome

Thank you

I suggest you discuss your medication with your dispensing pharmacist who will be able to give you a professional opinion. But if it's any help I take lansoprazole for reflux disease and I take this at the beginning of the day, before breakfast to see me through the day, and try to then leave a gap of 20 to 30 mins before I eat breakfast to give the medication enough time to become effective.

Hi, are you using factor 50 in any light whilst being prescribed Amiodarone? I was advised to apply factor 50 sunscreen everyday regardless of weather whilst using Amiodarone & haven't experienced any issues with natural light ect.

the pack tells you when to take the Omeprazole and what to avoid when taking it. And yes discuss with the dispensing pharmacist or the pharmacist employed by your doctor’s group of surgeries

Hi, I'm surprised that being on such a high dose of Amiodarone you aren't already on Omeprazole or something similar. I was told it was necessary to protect the stomach when taking other medication. I have Tachy-Brady syndrome and am currently on 1 x 200mg Amiodarone, 1 x Edoxoban, 2 x 5mg Bisoprolol, and 1 x 20mg Omeprazole.

Definitely worth having a conversation with your GP about.

Best of luck.

Thanks for your replyDo you take Omniprozole in the morning with your other meds ?

I thought that it might stop the Amiodarone being absorbed

On the ward all meds were dispensed together in the morning at the same time. However now I'm home I take the omeprazole around 30 minutes before my other meds as I've been told it works better if taken on its own before anything else is digested.

There are different types of PPIs as well as Omeprazole. I was started on Lanzoprazole as a stomach protection. It really disagreed with me, in terms of feeling sick. I switched to Pantoprazole which I now take for reflux, and it suits me. Just to let you know there are different options which can have the same effect.

Started 2nd January having been in persistent A Fib for around 6 months, after just 9 days it got me into normal sinus rhythm. Thankfully that has held so I'm awaiting cardiologist review in the next few weeks to discuss next steps. I guess options will be stay on 200mg, reduce to 100mg, come off them given potential side effects and see what happens , use an alternative and/or go on waiting list for ablation. I must admit I'd prefer not to be on them but I also much prefer being in normal sinus rhythm. Good luck to you.
