15% Ejection fraction and feel well.

Hi I saw my cardiologist today who told me my EF had dropped from 47% to 15 % in just under 3 years. This was measured by MRI. I am on the normal drugs Apixaban Entresto Dysopiramide. I’m well, still work and walk regularly. Within normal weight range. I have been diagnosed with HOCM for 35 years and have an ICD.

I really can’t believe I feel well and the ef is so low. Does anyone else have such a low measurement and still feel well?

Hi Crochetbaby, it's great you are feeling well with an EF of 15%. I feel really well too with an EF of 25%. I have LV impairment with LBBB and was supposed to get a pacemaker implant, but the procedure didn't go to plan when the third lead pierced my heart, the implant was stopped and emergency OHS was performed to repair the hole. I'm on great meds, including Entresto. I'm hoping to increase my EF by keeping active . Best wishes .

Thankyou for replying. Yes I do all the right things, excercise and diet etc. I manage all the other bits of HOCM really well. I just need surgery on something unrelated which is why this has come to light. So my risk is very high.

Best wishes x

Sorry to hear risk is very high. Forgive my ignorance, but what is HOCM?

absolutely. Mine is regularly measured at the 15% mark but it does vary.

I walk 10k a day and do an hours aerobic exercise as well.

I don’t have dizzy spells, blackouts, afib, arrhythmia, any oedema or fluid on my heart or lungs.

Oh my goodness you have made me feel so much better. I have no ankle swelling . No trouble breathing when laying down. Walk regularly. Work for myself 4/5 days a week.

Was in total shock yesterday that it could drop so low and still be functioning. Thankyou for your reply.

Regards sandra

did you do cardio rehab? Highly recommend it if you can. They’ll give you parameters which you can measure your improvements (let’s not talk about anything but) against.

The ones I use are not to exceed 122 bpm and 120/70 BP whilst exercising.

I daren’t show the nurses what I actually achieve as they’ll nail my feet to the floor.

Other than that, keep on keeping on and you’ll get to know your own limits. ❤️‍🩹❤️

I’m starting cardiac rehab in about 3 weeks, just got to have my assessment first. Thankyou for your answer will look back at your figures when I start. How do you measure your blood pressure when exercising.?
