Looking for ANY recommendations! My cardiologist has put on my diagnosis 'possible occult cardiomyopathy' amongst other things. I cannot obtain any further clarification on this as he is now on leave and I beleiev his colloeagues won't speculate.
It seems I cannot get medical travel insurance for ANY pre-existing conditions now. Even my hypermobility syndrome. I have already exhausted the BIBA brokers as recommended by Cardiomyopathy UK.
Has anyone else been in this situation?
Thank you in advance.

Read below and then find an online comparison site for travel insurance with pre-existing conditions, and take it from there. And/or talk to a local insurance broker. Unfortunately if insurers consider your profile carries too much risk they will decline to cover, or you might find the premium overly expensive.
Actually, the reason I asked is because I have this open diagnosis, as in the term 'possible' and I wondered if anyone else has had this and were able to insure themselves. I have exhausted a great deal of options, and time, in particular as recommended by Cardiomyopathy Uk already and now feel uninsurable!
my experience of insurance in general is that if an insurer does not know what they are insuring, they cannot insure it. Therefore in travel insurance in particular, if a diagnosis has not been made they cannot know what the risk is. Risk, to an insurer, is based on statistical analysis.
I get my travel insurance through my bank as (for my and my husband’s conditions) they are cheaper than I can get elsewhere - the best I was quoted a few years ago for worldwide annual cover was around £1800. The insurer I’m with says in their documentation:
“The insurer has worked with the Financial Conduct Authority and Money and Pensions Service to create a directory of specialist insurance providers that you can search when they're unable to help. To find an alternative travel insurance provider:
visit the travel insurance directory within the website Moneyhelper.org
call MoneyHelper on 0800 138 7777 (available Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm).”
Hi Chal57, I have a very rare genetic cardiac condition . I think the important thing with a possible diagnosis is you answer their questions fully and honestly regarding medication and any time spent in hospital. Possibly isn't a diagnosis so just concentrate on asking their specific questions. You are required to answer what they ask fully and honestly. Don't worry about disclosing what they don't ask. If you do that you are covered. Staysure and Insure and go are both ok but all travel insurance you will pay a premium for now. Travel is important to me so I accepted that but it is crappy.
Have you tried Total Travel Protection? I moved to them when Staysure removed all over for anything connected to heart or circulation because I was on a waiting list for an ablation. They have a slightly different approach to medical screening

I had a similar response, not related to my heart condition, but because I was awaiting diagnosis for possible glaucoma, and seeing an ophthalmologist could take quite some time! I also went through BIBA, and was offered insurance by AllClear with 'waiting list' cover - Single trip cover only, but at least cover. Just a thought, but could it be the "possible" in your report that's causing the issue? Insurance companies seem very black and white, they don't like known, you either have it or you don't! 🙄
Feel it is the word ‘possible’ here as they won’t insure undiagnosed conditions and often if you are awaiting tests. I don’t know if the cardiologist could be a bit clearer with diagnosis or if there other tests you could have?
As a member of national wide building society I can get insurance, you might try them. A friend of ours in his 80s with multiple heart problems also got cover. Might be worth taking a look?
Thank you. Nationwide are my bank and I have travel insurance included with my current account. Unfortunately it was a big fat no for medical upgrade, and as with all the others, the 'possible' cardiomyopathy wiped out every other pre-existing conditions.
Hi I use insurancewith.com they specialise in pre existing conditions, I have never claimed so I can't say how good they would be. They will not insure if a diagnosis is within 6 weeks of travel. I had a diagnosis of bowel cancer in December and as we were due to fly on the 29th they pulled my cover but now that I have had my operation on the 5th February I am hoping that I will get insurance for a trip to Crete in May which was booked last year and is paid for 🤞🤞🤞 I am waiting till next month to apply for it. I hope you get cover ok for your holiday the sun always makes me feel better 🌞😎char.
