Hello,

My GP is suggesting that I take Dapagliflozin. Has anyone had side effects from it?

Hi, both myself and my Dad are on this medication, largely to improve the pumping function of the heart. We’ve been fine with it really - so far. It can lower your B.P.

Dad is sadly palliative, with end stage heart failure and suffers with odema. Once he started taking it, initially there was a noticeable reduction to the swelling in his legs. So it does work.

I was put on it following O.H.S in June, to try and increase my heart’s ejection fraction post op.

I asked if my Dad cld try this medication at the Heart Failure Clinic, as they are running out of options for him. The Nurses there advised me that N.H.S guidelines dictate that you can only be prescribed Dapagliflozin if your E.F is 40% or less. My Dad’s is between 40-45%. However, they agreed to trial him with it. If it makes him a little more comfortable - that’s all that matters.

My Cardiologist described it as the new ‘wonder drug’. So personally, if you’re being offered it - I wld try and see how you get on. Hope you’re ok with it.

Hello Smallbo, I will be most interested in reading replies to your enquiry as my nurse has suggested I should go on it to help with my EF of 20%. Regards M

I worry slightly when people here ask others whether they have had side effects. I see you’ve had a reply encouraging you to use it. But suppose you also had a few replies saying ‘yes I had side effects”? What would you then do?

There may be only one a few people who are on this forum and also on this drug. Whereas you if you look up the product on a reputable platform it will show you what side effects have been observed in a much greater population. If you’ve already been prescribed this of course you will have read the pack insert which shows these.

Thanks for answering my question. happyrosie - Of course I have looked on a reputable platform and looked at the reported side effects. I am trying to make an informed decision - not looking for a lecture! Dodgytickermum - I’m glad that your Dad has been given the opportunity to try this ‘wonder drug’ and hope it will continue to help him.

I’m sorry if this came over as a lecture - but I am seriously quite worried that people are using this platform where the audience is very low compared with the audience used by researchers.

Perhaps I’d better not comment further on this subject!

Hiya. I have been taking Dapag for about 4 months so far with no side effects. For me it's ok compared to some meds I am on.
