Hi EveryoneIn 2014 my husband had the valve and 3 bypass op, recovered well.
December 2019 had a heart attack and subsequent stent.
September 2022 started with gallbladder pains but due to his previous ops there was considerable delay getting it removed. Delay that caused so much infection only half his GB could be safely removed.
Now he has lots of pain in his back and shoulder and his search of you tube showed this could be due to GB side effects.
None of this is BHF problem but the 'doctor' on you tube recommended purified bile salts.
As I am not a fan of self prescribing or homeopathic remedies I wonder if taking this medication could be detrimental to his other heart meds - atorvastatin etc?
Also on my checking the 'doctor's' qualifications turns out he is a chiropractor.
The tablets are expensive but if they work, fair enough but if anyone has any advice I'd be grateful.
Stay well, All.

I can't think why I didn't think of that! Doh. Our pharmacist is great. All the ingredients seem to be herbs but even they can be toxic in some cases. Thank you.
Ahhhh dr eric berg.....love him ......atorvastatin useless med .....watch dr Annette Biz new video it is Why i wont prescribe statins anymore.....your husband still has half of a gallbladder????ive never heard of that it can cause right shoulder pain leading up into the neck area .....had he beebn eating a lot of low fat foods?? Look up in groups on facebook Dr Martin out of canada ...been a dr for years he has many podcasts and videos
hi i from the UK had gallbladder partially removed 6 months after triple bypass (2 years ago) Approx 2thirds removed , When i asked about side effects, he listed , possible pain in the gallbladder area if i ate to much fatty foods as the body would normally secrete more bile from the reserve held in the gallbladder to help dissolve the fats , so the section still there tries to do its job.
Another side effect , normally in early days is diarrhoea again as the body adjust to the gallbladder not being there.
i have had both symptoms and i now keep a food diary and it’s helped me understand which foods or drinks trigger these events, at my annual health check i mentioned these symptoms and it was thought that the heart medication was the more likely cause of the diarrhoea in case where i think i’ve eaten sensibly . Note it’s only once or twice times a month and once my bowel is clear it stops.
Sorry for ramble and not having info on bile salts, but defiantly talk to GP or Cardiac support nurse , pharmacist before trying them.
Yes husband also had these side effects but after consultation with surgeon understood that recovery takes a little time. I'm going to check with pharmacist RE the tablets . Hes mainly very well (for 79 yo). Stay safe.
Hi Anne,None of us are allowed to give advice on this forum although trying to help one another is ok!! I would start off by definitely NOT reading anything at all on the Internet!! Perhaps a call to your GP or 111 may help!? I really hope you get some proper advice from a trained professional, then you can begin to move forward with the right treatment and medication. I've had 3 heart attacks and stents and a double CABG last year. I have paid too much attention to DR Google in the past but not now. My life is far too important. Good luck.
Of course you are right. These tablets were something I'd never heard of. I'm naturally averse to quackery but wondered if anyone else had heard if them. Getting GP appointments has been so difficult here and OH in pain and reluctant to depend on painkillers. Stay safe.
Please do insist on a GP appointment and failing that ring 111. I almost lost a friend last year from a massive gall bladder infection that turned to sepsis. He was home alone at the time and had just taken stuff like gaviscon for his pain. When his wife couldn't reach him by phone, she asked a friend to check on him. They found him almost unconscious and he was rushed to hospital. It was touch and go for a week. Luckily he lives in Sweden where hospital treatment is far quicker than here
The 12 month delay in treatment was due to him being in one health authority for his heart and another for his gallbladder. To-ing and fro-ing about who should do the op. was very frustrating as he was in so much pain. When it was eventually decided the infection had caused so much adhesions they could only remove half of it. We never thought of sepsis but on reflection he was very lucky. Take care.
