I take the supplements shown above, and was wondering if it was safe for me to do so following HA and angioplasty last September. I presently take the meds shown below, and I was wondering about any possible negative interaction. If anyone has any info to share I’d really appreciate hearing it. Many thanks.
Aspirin 75mg
Atorvastatin 80mg
Bisoprolol Fumarate 1.25mg
Losartan 25mg
Ticagrelor 90mg (for six months)

Hi, Thanks for this. I actually mentioned it to my GP this morning while seeing him about something else. Mumbled something about ‘These things aren’t tested, so I wouldn’t really know.’ I have a local pharmacy though, where I pick up my heart meds, so I’ll run it past them. Just thought I’d check in the forum though, as it’s a great source of info.
It's not wrong to try to take control of your own health, with due diligence, but I second both replies above. That is, ask your pharmacist, Bhunabhoy. All the best, 🦉
I take supplements because in my case, they may be helping with cholesterol levels, reduction of inflammation, and general heart health. Happily, my GP shows no concern over their use.
My supplements don't include magnesium or selenium, though. I hope you soon find the information you need 🙂
Supplements are a huge unregulated business, unlike the pharmaceutical industry, and in the UK alone the business is worth £1,6bn each year and rising according to one source. I have no doubt that some supplements do a good job , but there are others that are known to interact with medication, so if anyone is considering taking supplements they should always consult with a health professional who is knowledgeable about these things, such as a pharmacist, but perhaps preferably not the pharmacist at the store where you might buy the supplements.
Yes in my opinion it is ok to use. Magnesium and selenium are essential minerals for every body, and occur naturally in protein's and carbohydrates. Supplementing will do no harm, but, it is better to eat real food and obtain your daily requirements from food.
