Just wondering what time of day everyone takes their anti-platelet drugs? I am currently on 75mg Asprin, plus Atorvastatin and Omeprazole. I have swapped the Statin to taking in the morning rather than the evening, as it was giving me awful dreams. The Omeprazole gives me quite a few problems at the other end of my body, but if I don't take it I often get indigestion from the Asprin, bit of a catch 22 situation which I am sure is common. I was on Clopedogrel but that also gave me indigestion (worse than the Asprin) and you can't take Omeprazole with it, the previous PPI (Lanzoprazole) did awful things to my insides, say no more, so I can't take that. So, I wondered if anyone takes the Asprin later on maybe with the evening meal? I can't see on the face of it why the timing should make a difference as long as it is regular? I currently take it in the morning.

Time of day to take Anti-platelet meds
i’m also on 75mg aspirin.. i take it along with another 8 meds in the morning which also includes omaprazole.. Consultant in hospital actually prescribed Omaprazole twice a day.. but after i read some of the side effects i’ve taken the decision to take it once a day.. always take my simvastatin in the evening.. seems that’s the advice regarding statins
I do the aspirin and clopidogrel in the morning, statin at night along with the bp meds. A few others thrown into the mix as well in the morning and night.
Always feel odd taking lots at the same time so I spread them out by an hour or so.
Can I ask what side effects you had with Lanzopresole please?
Yes of course - stomach aches/cramps, repeat trips to the WC with fairly unpleasant results, if you get my drift. They went through me like a dose of salts, you could say. My GP said that he thought that the increased prescribing of them would lead to a build up of problems in years to come, didn't have much time for them to be honest.
I'm on Bisoprolol 1.25mg+300mg aspirin once a day - I take mine in the morning and have had no ill effects. I usually wait at least an hour before eating or having a cuppa after taking the morning meds with a full 8oz glass of water.
My cardiologist says I must have a cast-iron oesophagus and stomach as I have had no ill effects and I've been on the aspirin dose for decades. The beta blocker is relatively new - started that April 2019, but again, I've been taking the 300mg aspirin for years.
He says as long as I'm not having any problems with the aspirin he wants to keep me on it but he also says he wouldn't ordinarily recommend such a high aspirin dose to his other patients.
I take aspirin 75mg in the evening as I am more likely to have food in my stomach than early morning. I used to take it in the morning but noticed some symptoms of indigestion even though I was also taking lanzoprazole which in turn gave me diarrhoea.
I dropped lanzoprazole and changed aspirin to the evening and it worked for me. I stress these were decisions I decided to make and I am just giving you my own experience.
Incidentally I have just read an NHS article on taking aspirin in the evening nhs.uk/news/heart-and-lungs...
Usual caveats apply in that you should consult your GP or Pharmacist as well
Yes I read that article too, interesting. To be perfectly honest if I go down the GP route it will depend on if I can get to see the only one there who is not afraid to make a decision on his own, but I think it will be very difficult under the present circumstances, however after reading that article it is hard to see how it is going to make much difference.
