Just needing some reassurance please
It's got to point all I do is just sit on sofa all day to scared to do basic chores
I have SVT which is a benign arrhythmia which gives me a fast heart rate. Arrhythmias are notoriously difficult to capture and it’s pot luck recording one on an ECG. You could request a 7 day monitor or invest in a Kardia device/apple watch which can pick them up. It’s very frustrating trying to get a diagnosis. I had ectopics for years but finally had a full blown SVT which landed me in A&E where they finally captured the arrhythmia on an ECG. Remember most palpitations are benign and not life threatening but it’s always wise to consult a Doctor if things are different for you.
I had a 7day heart holter last may It was normal apart from odd eptopics... But things can change thou
Hi, sorry to hear about your heart palpitations. It can indeed be scary and frustrating having these and you can't understand why. It is good to hear your ECGs and blood tests were all fine that is very reassuring.
I have had a similar situation to yours.
You say you had blood tests, I wonder what the blood tests covered? Did it cover your iron levels, Ferritin, B12, Folate, Vitamin D, Thyroid?
I only ask this as I had really scary tachycardia for no reason end of 2022 on several occasions and I ended up in A&E. They could find nothing wrong with my heart on ECGs.
I would mention I am a Thyroid patient. A long story but it turned out I was deficient in Folate and low in vitamins, which is typical of Autoimmune Thyroid disease but I am not suggesting you have that.
Low iron, low folate and low B12 can all cause palpitations without having Thyroid disease but it might be worthwhile getting it checked out if you haven't had them done already.
I have to say I went privately to have an Echocardiogram for extra reassurance which was worthwhile having.
I can only suggest getting further investigations if you are in doubt and to put your mind at rest.
Good luck.
How do you cope with tachycardia x I panic when mine is 100 bpm
Hi, I have had tachycardia and palpitations for many years. The worst thing you can do is panic because you are adding more fear to fear and your body will naturally throw more adrenalin your way and you'll heart will beat faster. Not to panic is easier said than done I know!
Tachycardia is normally classed as as over 100 beats per min. Mine has been a lot higher than that on a few occasions and it isn't a pleasant experience.
I also find that certain foods trigger mine. chocolate (unfortunately) caffeine is another so I drink decaff.
When you have an episode, try this trick... lie flat on your back and raise your legs above your head and hold them there whilst breathing in slowly hold your breath and breath out slowly then repeat.
I manage my fast heart rate with a beta blocker Atenolol. Have you not been offered a beta blocker?
Obviously if things get worse seek further medical advice.
Hi.
As Aztec632 says, Tachycardia is over 100 beats per minute. Mine went up to 140 and I stopped counting as it can cause more anxiety knowing your heart is beating so fast and thus makes it beat even faster. It was 138bpm when I was in A&E. I am on decaf tea and I was also careful with eating chocolate as it was a trigger. However, as I said in another post my racing heart was vitamin deficiency and thyroid related.
A&E and the Cardiologist I saw privately said my palpitations were more likely secondary to another issue going on and they were right in my case!!! Everyone is different but just a thought perhaps it may be worth seeking further medical investigation to get more clarity if you feel concerned.
