Hi Everyone. I finally started to take the half tablet last Monday. I've had a pretty bad week of side effects. But I haven't had any chest pain. It's too early to tell if the tablet is doing the trick. But I do wonder if I would benefit from increasing to the full dose of 60mg and whether doing that would mean another horrific week?I wonder if people could share their own experiences please.

Hello
I have no experience with this drug plenty on others and side effects making you feel so rotten
From my experience regarding increasing doses when I have been already getting side effects from a medication is they do get worse but sometimes as the body adjusts things improve
Unless a Doctor or Consultant has said it is ok to increase the dose then I would not do it without asking first
I am glad on a positive though the chest pain is better
Let us know how you get on x
Thank you for your reply. I hope you are well.I am thinking along the same lines, that they side affects my increase. As you say, as the half tablet seems to have done the trick, not to increase. I will speak to the cardiac nurse today.
I feel much brighter this morning after a relatively pain-free night🙂
I used to take it before my bypass. It used to give me terrible headache every afternoon - regular as clockwork 4pm! If you don't have chest pain on half dose I would leave well alone until you speak to GP.
I'm on 60mg. After the initial headaches I had no problems. GP tried to halve it but angina came back worse. Am now also on Nicorandil. Obviously GTN spray as well. I really have a bad head after using that!!
I have ocassional headaches with the gtn spray but nothing like the bad headaches that I get with the tablet. These are persisting. The cardiac nurse said the side affects show the tablet is doing it job. Obviously it's best not to have restricted blood flow to the heart as the risk to life is there, but the side effects of treatment do also impact life. I guess I have to find a way to come to terms with this and to realise I can't really support my family in the way I wish to, at the moment.
That's very interesting to me. The gtn spray has only every given me an ocassional mild headache. But I have not taken it while using this new medication. With the new meds I initially felt very lightheaded, shaky, sickly, with some tooth twinges. This mainly reduced after the first few days. These side effects were mainly replaced by terrible headaches 4hrs after taking, I also had severe teeth problems. Now a week later I am hopeful that these symptoms are reducing. I seem to have been able to coordinate the pain relief to coincide with the headaches. I am also hoping the tooth problems will be short lived and not have caused further damage to my heavily repaired teeth.
I hope you are now enjoying a more stable time with your angina. Thank you very much for your reply it is most helpful. Lynne
Hi I'm on that I'm supposed to take it twice a day. But only take it once and feel better for it. My gp said if I'm not getting pains then it's ok
Twice a day! Oh my goodness! No side affects?
I started on 60mg and am now on 90mg. Consultant said to me in hospital a year ago there was 'headroom' to increase it. As it was working most of the time I contacted my surgery after about 3 months and asked to increase from 60mg to 90mg I'm now on. It's been a game changer for me and allows me to be more active. I am lucky in that I have no side effects.
Hi, I've been taking 90mg of Monomil Isosorbide Mononitrate for the past 6 months, during this time I haven't experienced any of my usual angina pain. I have suffered with occasional joint pain in my hands and knees but to be honest I prefer that to the chest pain I was getting. I also take 20mg Nicorandil twice a day.
I'm glad that you had no side effects and only the benefits. Long may it last.Thank you for replying. Lynne x
Hello, I was started on 60mg and had terrible side effects, so halved my next dose. Still side effects but not quite as bad. Kept severe HA like angina away initially , then increased to full 60mg. Then had another HA, now on additional medication to manage my angina. If 30mg is managing angina perhaps discuss with your GP with proviso to increase the dose if angina starts again. By the way, when I did increase the dose I didn't have any of the awful side effects, I think you build a tolerance to it overtime. Good luck
Thanks for your reply. I think your right. Build up a tolerance and increase if need be.Sorry to hear you've had a couple of HA I hope you are feeling OK at present. Lynne x
yes it’s worth doing, I’m on 85mg , read my profile, I be happy to help if I can .
