This is just a general small question for you all. I'm suffering with a high amount of constant coughing fits especially more in the evenings and experiencing a high amount of pain in my chest and ribs which are painful. Is this all generally normal with Chronic Heart Disease- Mitral Heart Valve Regurgitation?
Myself and my parents are struggling a bit and are struggling hearing me constantly coughing where I'm unable to bring anything up, seeing me in pain and getting quite upset and frustrated due to the pain.

Hi I am very sorry to hear you are struggling so much. I personally don’t think this is normal, I am not a doctor, so please get checked out. How long have you felt like this? Are you taking medications? Please do get checked out. Take care, Judi
This has been ongoing for a long time since January. Cardiology say it's all heart related but aren't sure why. Not on any medication for the heart just on a lot of pain relief. Have been forwards and backwards to GP- pain is down to inflammation of the ribs which takes long to heal. Inflammation of ribs due to high amount of coughing fits. Have also been to A&E a numerous amount of times where they compete tests everything comes back normal.
Hi Musicw, sorry to hear you're struggling with a terrible cough and chest pain.
I think you'd best get in contact with your GP surgery as soon as you can to be checked out. Could be a chest infection or respiratory infection.
My partner has severe mitral valve regurgitation and is awaiting his op, and doesn't have these symptoms, so I hope your GP can help you and that you feel better very soon.
Good morning, I'm just getting over a chest infection but can't shake off the coughing. These bouts are giving me a lot of pain in my ribs and back. There are loads of nasty viruses going around but for you to have it for months is not normal but, giving that I have a mechanical mitral valve and someone who is very proactive, I believe dry coughs can be a symptom of regurgitation.
Are you awaiting surgery or is it not yet at severe stage?
I have moderate mitral regurgitation and have been referred to surgeons to see if I will be suitable to have a Mitral ring done. I know that I will be requiring surgery at some point however, we aren't sure when at the moment as I'm showing a lot of symptoms including being short of breath.
When I had my replacement the surgeon was hoping for a repair but the valve had little left of it to repair. Apparently the body can "dissolve" and excrete it. The last year or so when my leak changed from moderate to severe I was very breathless but after surgery (and obviously) recovery, I felt totally different for the better. A repair is preferable IF suitable but if not a mechanical replacement will do the trick. I've had mine 20 years now and I'm fitter than most men of my age!
