Hi, I am a 68 yrs old male and in general good health in fact I had my bloods done only a couple of weeks ago and all were good. However I have been suffering from Ectopic heartbeats for a few years but only at nightime when I lay down to sleep, if I manage to sleep at all, they wake me up.
Over the past few years I have had every test you can think of including angiograms, echo cardiograms ,halter monitors ,xrays and countless ecg's. All have come up with nothing worth speaking of. So whats going on ? Neither my concultant nor myself have got at clue anymore. My consultant has said that my heart and circulation is strong and is in great shape and in fact has now signed me off the program. Its good to get the all clear but I am still getting regular strong single thumps in my chest at nightime which have been labelled benign ectopic heartbeats ......I thought I would share this incase anybody else has the same or similar thing......thank you for reading.

Hello, your case sounds very interesting. I also have ectopic beats which don't seem to have a reason. My cardiologist said many cells in the heart are capable of "converting" (sorry I can only use layman's terms) and they can conduct "electric" impulses. He said sometimes they cannot explain why these beats happen and in my case he feels they are totally benign and if I can live with them without medication there's no problem. So, I decided better to live with them than take medicine!
Ectopics can be linked to posture as described by the following cardiologist video. Lots on here get worse ectopics when lying on their left side. Maybe try sleeping on your back or right side or even sitting up supported by pillows you see if that helps
Hi, sounds very similar to me, I'm male 72, my ectopics got worse after Covid which caused bouts of tachycardia as well but seems to be calming down now. Went through all the tests, cardiologist couldn't find anything wrong, offered me Beta blockers but decided I didn't want to take them. I decided to try and ignore them as much as possible, I find breathing exercises work sometimes, a yoga breathing technique, Pranayama, and also listening to calming music, Radio 3. Hope some of this helps.
Hello Mgs333 I can relate to your benign Ectopic hearbeats. I am the same age. I have had them off an on for over 30 years. I have had the echocardium, the holter, ecg's. I will be fitted with another holder soon. Nightime is the worst, I know their are triggers so I try to avoid this. I was told by my Cardiologist that as long as their are no symptoms at the time, it is okay. Symptoms such as chest pain, breathlessness. Hope this helps you. Take care.
