Upper back pain when I breathe in deep?

I have had nothing but trouble with my health just lately and I'm so fed up not getting any answers, I've had upper back pain on left side since Friday feels like a pulled muscle but it hurts when I take a deep breath and it's on my OHS scar so I'm hoping it's just a coincidence and nothing worrying? I have left a message on my GP website and I have blood test tomorrow for another issue but I just don't know why this keeps happening to me 💔💔. Any suggestions what could be the issue??

Sorry to hear about the back pain. Mine is constant too however, it is my “normal”. Do you have any other symptoms a part from the upper back pain, and it hurting when you breathe in? Maybe a temperature, cough, nausea? Have you tried to apply pressure to where it hurts on your back to see if you can replicate the pain? These may help rule out if it is a chest infection or if something else is going on.

It hurts to bend down or sit hunched over it's weird I pressed on where there pain is and it hurts so I'm not sure what to do? Hurts more to stand up. Feels like a pulled muscle but deep breathing feels like it's pulling on something?? 💔

It could just be a muscle strain as they say cardiac pain can’t be reproduced. Have you tried using a hot water bottle to see if that helps? I know it’s an awkward position as the pain is in the back, but that may help relax your muscles.

It could be indigestion. When I had my heart attack (which I thought at the time was a pulled muscle), there was nothing I was able to do in terms of moving around to ease the pain. Whereas with indigestion, certain movements or deep breathing can provoke a response.

Hi there iam sorry to hear that you are experiencing pain in your upper left back. It's not fair in life to experience pain every day. I was feeling ok earlier this morning. Iam in the living room on my own with pain on the left side of my chest which comes and goes. Probably Anxiety, I just don't like when it starts to happen. I just want one day with no pain. Take care.

Ahh I know exactly how you feel it seems everyday I wake up and I'm in pain, I got some multi vitamins today so that should help a little bit hopefully. Had blood test today aswell. Made 2 appointments aswell lost count how many doctors appointments I have had this year! 💔. Hope you feel better soon.

I'd request to have an examination done when you go for your blood test tomorrow just to rule out anything that might require medical treatment, as it could be various things , and may , or may not , be linked to your recent infection. If it's mainly happening on the left it could be gastric reflux and stomach acid made worse by any recent antibiotics as they can cause a change in the balance of your stomach acid which rebounds after your finish the course. Lots of water and protecting your stomach before taking your medications or eating food for a while with live natural yoghurt and a little honey can help. Raising your head and shoulders on supportive graduating pillows and drinking more water , especially when eating helps.

If you have recently had a cough or cold , an inflammatory infection or exercised the diaphragm vigorously you can get costochondritis, which is a irritating and very painful inflammation in the area around the ribs which feels worse when you breath in and can sometimes feel like intense chest pain. This condition is usually treated with hydration, Paracetamol , rest and breathing exercises and can take a number of months before it's fully resolved. Although this usually affects the whole rib area rather than one side.

A heat pad , wheat bag or hot water bottle can also give relief.

A pulled muscle in the area can also have similar symptoms can be treated with similar things to costochondritis and some additional very gentle stretching but this can be one sided.

If you have had to spend a lot of time at a desk or in bed because of illness you can also get a tightening in the chest and abdominal muscles as well as additional stomach acid . This can also cause one sided chest pain and this can often be helped by raising your head and shoulders while you sleep , more hydration and gentle isometric stretching for the chest and back ,

You are in the wars , hope you feel better soon, Bee

Did your back pain get worse when your bladder infection started? That's pretty common , it's often a tell tale sign that you have a UTI , kidney or bowel infection when you have endless gnawing lower back pain. Sometimes it can take a while to go after your infection has cleared up.

Do you work a lot at a desk or lean over a lot on your phone?

Are you finding it hard to do exercise at the moment , even walking or stretching?

Posture can cause bad back pain as can your back stiffening up if your mobility is reduced.
