Leg Problems after CABG / Saphenous Vein Harvested

Hi,

I had a CABG x 3 about 18 months back (June 2022). During the ops my left saphenous vein was harvested. I had a stroke in the recovery room, however my question is to other folk that have had CABG and vein removal. Do you have any complications with your leg, loss of feeling, feeling heavy, or feeling 'thick' and uncoordinated?

Thanks

I’ve had numbness at both ends where the saphenous vein was harvested and very itchy as well. Two years on I have no issues, it will get better with time. Take care

They used my saphenous vein from my thigh during my CABGX3 September '22.. I've still got numbness, 'thickness', pins and needles, itchiness but I feel its getting slightly better as the time goes on. I'm afraid nerves can take a long time, sometimes many years to heal. The graft from my arm is worse to be honest. I still can't feel half my hand properly. However, I think you should see your GP about the uncoordinated feeling. That doesn't sound right to me.

All the best

Susie

Thanks Susie, very useful to hear similar symptoms on the leg ie- 'thickness'. I always struggled to describe this to people. I had a stroke in the recovery room, so am not sure whether some of my symptoms are CABG related or stroke related - all part of the lottery I guess. I suspect the balance is more neurological. Thanks again, and I hope your recovery continues well.

Hi I had mine Jan 2021.

Anywhere around the area the vein was taken is numb still, I don't expect that will return but other than that all seems back to normal

The n umbness is simply where the surface nerves have been cut. They can take up to years to recover. When I had an abdominal operation it was over 10 years before I got any feeling back in the skin. Sorry can't comment on the other problems.
