Hi Criswood, august 11th I received my gift, I went down the hospital on the 10th for a ECG and stress test, only received ECG, doctor told me he's booked a bed for me that afternoon and a angiogram in the morning, also told me that my aorta was narrowing, (I had a echocardiogram the week before) and that they will have a good look at my valve during my angiogram, have since been told its lower end of moderate, and I was also told that I had had a silent heart attack, which I remember having and thinking I was having a severe asthma attack never dreaming I was having a heart attack, my wife was with me when I had it and it was her that made me go down the doctors, and as a result had all the tests, the stent was put in the front of my heart the(LAD), and the cardiologist told me that he only managed to get through the blockage, so far feeling positive and waiting for a follow up with my cardiologist, I have since had another echocardiogram, for that meeting, ( they picked up that I had a heart attack after the ECG and blood tests hence no stress test) the cardiologist put the before and after photos up when they finished putting my stent in, yes I am very lucky only a cotton like trickle getting through before stent, meds I am taking aspirin Brilique Perindopril, Amlodipine, the last 2 for blood pressure, MY wife and myself are keen skiers and I really hope one day we can ski together a few more times, wish you well,

Welcome to the forum Baffle. I hope you find this forum supportive and informative. There are many others who have had a heart attack and stents fitted in. I have not had a stent, but I did have a heart attack last year unfortunately. I hope others come by to share their experiences with you and welcome you to the forum.

Where this site excels is that (a) it is monitored so you won’t get wrong or bad advice and (b) you have the BHF force here for professional advice.

I got a replacement valve three years ago and it was an amazingly good experience. Gave me my life back. Long recovery of about three months but things improved every couple of days. No probs at all since then.

Arent cardiac ward staff wonderful.

I can only tell you about aortic valve problems. In my area they described my valve issues as mild then a few years later moderate then a few months later severe. At this stage it was all systems go and in to a heart hospital for a new valve. They didn’t mention a critical stage.

My surgeon is a highly respected heart surgeon and he wanted the three tests done immediately before the op. I had these as an inpatient which was highly desirable route. I was in hospital for one week after the op. Then home for three months of recovery. I had my life back, it was an uplifting experience. I was 72.

I'm 71. My story is one of being fast tracked through the system. Due to a visit to A&E a year ago with chest pains and severe breathlessness I had an echocardiogram in mid May. I was told I'd had a heart attack in the previous 7 days and we came to the conclusion, eventually, that I had had a silent attack just 10 hours before the echo.

I was admitted on the spot and transferred to Papworth as a priority patient just 4 days later. Two stents later and they did another echo. Deja-vu, I was kept in for AVR and CABG as I had a regurgitating Aortic valve. The CABG was precautionary as it was a vessel they couldn't stent.

So, five weeks one day in hospital and discharged in late June. Exactly three months after my OHS I did my first Parkrun (5k) and should do my 7th tomorrow morning. Never a runner before my HA and OHS I was determined to prove the doctors wrong when they said I'd only get 75-90% of my pre-operation fitness back but I'm already at a level that I haven't seen for at least 5 years or more. There are some things I grudgingly accept I won't do again, one being scuba diving.

Well, I've got my second chance at living life, deeply grateful to my surgeon and the teams that looked after me.

So, what I would say to you is accept what has happened but aspire, and work, to get fit again and return to normal life. There are lots of folk on here that have done it, so can you ...

Hi Baffle and welcome to the site. I am now 74. Ten years ago I had STEMI heart attack and cardiac arrest. One stent was done immediately and after being discharged a few days later I attended cardiac rehab. Do go if you can. A great way to improve your confidence as well as fitness. Since then I have traveled around the world frequently and have been skiing many times. You might find that you take a little bit longer to adjust to very high altitude and low temperatures but generally you should be fine.

Greetings Baffle and welcome to the Club. I had the same as you just over 2 years ago and feel pretty good. It took a few months for the meds to settle down but I have no problems now. The only downside I have is probably tied to my age at 68 in that I tend to get exhausted after a couple of hours working the garden, but walking and generally living is just great. My mindset was that I was lucky in that the h/a wasn't severe and that the stents fixed a bloodflow issue that I had, so crack on with life having had the issue repaired.

Welcome to the stent club. Mine were fitted after a heart attack 5 years ago. A total shock. That' s when I joined this group because I was just discharged to my GP and expected to just get on with it . This group is so helpful.

I have had 2 stents fitted. One 4 years ago and the second in feb this year. After 2 heart attacks. Hope you are coping well and feeling ok

Hi Bella160,in answer to your question, I really do feel years younger walking around 5 miles most days a lot more energy not falling asleep every afternoon, and I can't believe how relaxed I feel, a lot of positives, I feel very grateful that I have had the procedure and what its done for me, hope that helps, keep positive
