Newbie - loop implant

Anyone on here had a loop implant to record episodes of palpitations?

I'm having one implanted soon and just wondered if it's as straightforward as the specialist says it is?

Thank you 🙂

It was absolutely fine, as was having it out again. Just take care to keep the wound clean while it heals and you’ll be fine. I had mine years ago and believe the implants are smaller now as well...I was in and out inside half a day but needed someone to take me home due to the sedation.

Thank you so much.

How long was it in for and did it effect travel insurance? Thinking it may, as I would be still "under investigation "?

Sorry I'm not too sure re travel insurance as I didn't travel during that period but mine was in for 12-18 months.

Apparently they are much smaller, now. I did have an old one in, and it was a bit of an operation. I’m just about to have a new one, and I was told it can now just be injected in, and is about the same length, but the diameter of a straw. He said the whole thing takes about half an hour.

Hope it goes well.

Mine was the size of a memory stick and inserted in minutes with a local anaesthetic.

Quick and painless.

When I took out travel insurance, I did declare it but don't recall it having an impact on the premium. Just declare everything and you cannot go wrong.

Thank you Ian.

Yes, good advice about always declaring everything. Not worth the risk!

Incidentally, my loop recorder is still in 2+ years down the line - seems to have effectively warded off the suspected AF that it was installed to detect!

Happy days

Hi again. It was in for well over 2 years. Not sure if a loop is a problem with insurance. Sorry!

Hi, I've got one. it is about 35mm long and about 5mm diameter. No problem putting it in. Mines been in for 18 months, great piece of kit. If my hr plays up I press a key fob and it records 8 minutes worth and I send it to the cardiologist. The batteries last about 3 years. I was told recently that they might just leave it in (they don't always take them out nowadays). You wouldn't know I had it unless I told you and I'm slim. No issues with insurance, the issue could be the fact that you have a heart problem. Might need to tell them before walking through security doors etc.

Hi, i have just had one fitted 30th Dec, it takes longer to set the room up then pop it in! I was in for the afternoon and drove self home as only had about 4 local anesthetic injections. That was the worst bit really. If you are female i would advise a sports bra as it goes in your left boob near your cleavage and was tender with any 'jiggling' for about 10 days. I also wore a soft bra at night for a week. Also didnt vacuum or mop for the week as found it pulls the little scab open when you forget and over stretch. Mine connects with bluetooth on a phone app. I also record symptons on same app. No difference on phone battery luckily as it uses infrequent connections. Happy with my clever tech and hoping it provides diagnoses. Happy to discuss further.

Yes it’s very quick and a simple procedure. A little bruising afterwards but that’s to be expected, a magic piece of kit.

No problems with insurance, but you must declare it or your insurance will be nullified, Staysure were very good at explaining . I just say at airports
