hi, I’m just two months beyond a heart event with an MRI next week 🤞 I’m having problems with heartburn, any tips as to what I can use alongside the prescribed heart meds ?

Hello :-)

I am sorry to hear about your heart event but hopefully the MRI will all go well next week

Did they give you a PPI along side your meds as these usually help with heartburn as well as protecting the stomach

If they did not give you one then phone your pharmacist and ask a long side the meds you are taking what you could take

If they have given you a PPI and you are suffering then you can ask your pharmacist what they suggest or try and talk with your Doctor they may up the dose

Let us know how you get on :-) x

hi thank you for your reply, yes omeprazole, the centre of my chest feels as if it’s burning and something is stuck there. I am on Bisoprolol would this cause it? and if so is it easy to get off the medication? I feel worse than I did when I went into A&E .

Hello :-)

I take lansoprazole they all work similar even though one can suite someone better than another one can

I also take Bisoprolol as well as quite a few other meds so which one might cause me indigestion I am not sure and we all act differently to medications

If you are feeling worse than when you went to A&E then I would think about phoning 111 or maybe going to A&E again just to make sure it is indigestion I know that might be the last thing you want to hear but better to be safe

If you decide not to I would make sure I spoke with my Doctor tomorrow but I would try and get some advice tonight

Let us know how you get on :-) x

thank you, I maybe didn’t word that very well. I have more ails now than before starting the medications. But thank you for advising me. Yes I will let you know how I go on ☺️

Hello :-)

Maybe I read it wrong that is the problem sometimes when we are writing it does not always come across how it would if we were talking to someone :-)

I know that feeling in fact I was only saying to my Doctor tonight I feel worse on all these medications than I have ever felt before but I know they are needed and I am learning to accept how I feel even though I may not like it

Look forward to hearing how you get on :-) x

Thanks so much for taking the time to get back to me, really appreciate it:)

I’m not used to medication at all and finding all this very difficult. It helps having ppl alongside who are going through these things too. I wish you the very best on your journey and will let you know how it goes on Thursday 🤞🙏

If PPIs are not helping you, try Famotidine which works differently. It's prescription only.

I was prescribed omeprozole for my acid reflux as it was making me very bloated, my ribs hurt and affecting my breathing was so bad, definitely talk to your GP and see what they can prescribe x

in reply toYumz199725

thank you so much, yes on the same, but feels sore, burning and as if there is something stuck in centre of my chest.

Hi, not wanting to be alarmist, I have discomfort similar to what you mention, bisoprolol and dispersible aspirin half caused mine. Was kindly advised to request Enteric coated aspirin instead. My gp kindly obliged and doubled my PPI (lansaprazole) from 30mg to 30mg x 2 daily. Helped somewhat more. However I also have gastro oesophal reflux disease (GORD) So had problems prior to meds and heart attack. They just got worse and more regular after with the medication. However I went to my GP hence the increase in PPI.The reason I say this is because I wrote off severe indigestion burning and omg the pain as just that even falling to my knees after taking gaviscon then central chest back pain like something stuck and I think you get the picture without the full detail and thought ill just see gp. Turned out I'd fell asleep /after passing out at first. Gp rang 999 was HA.

So please if you still feel as you did when you last posted ring 111 or 999. At very least GP tomorrow.

Take care and good luck 🤞🙏

The ONLY symptom of my HA was severe indigestion for 3 days. It was only when on day 3 I got very slight tingling in my arm and neck that I suspected heart

I thought the same as gaviscon had several times taken away pain in chest throat many many times. Then it went to my arm vomiting and diarrhoea, felt too ill to ring 111 and too scared for 999(have agoraphobia) so fell asleep. Just thankful reception let me into see gp as told her can't go hospital because of it. By time I did get hospital pain had gone from 10 to a 2. I count myself very lucky to be here now. Learning so much here too.How are you doing now? :-)

Fine thanks; 5 years on now. Just wondering how my other two LAD blockages are going on. They were 64% but not bad enough to stent.

The first thing to do is to make sure it’s heartburn and not angina. I was treated for heartburn for 7 years and then had a heart attack and stent. Miraculously my heartburn stopped. If a squirt of nitro stops it it’s angina and if gavisacon stops it it’s heartburn is a rough and ready but effective test.

in reply toMentdent

Thank you for help and I’m so glad your feeling better. I’m going to speak to GP if I can today. I just don’t know what to do about the test, of gtn or gaviscon, I’m fearful of any medication.

...and to confuse the issue more GTN can also be used to treat some types of Gastro Esophageal Reflux Disease (GERD)!

but it is important to work out whether the pain is heart or stomach related!

in reply tofishonabike

Thanks for that, yes it’s a concern.

I find ginger ale helps. Ginger is good for nausea and the soda is good for making you "burp" which relieves it somewhat. Otherwise, I take Nexium every morning and Gaviscon if I need it.

It's sometimes hard to tell the difference but, in my experience, my reflux pain is far worse than any heart pain I've had.

in reply toSilvertail

Thanks so much, I will try the Ginger ale, tastes good too :). A few ppl have mentioned gaviscon, wasn’t sure about taking antacids ?

I was told I could take Gaviscon, but not every day. It takes yukky anyway. 🤗

Thank you I’ll see what they say today 👍

hello there. I take lansoprazole which helps me a lot especially after my heart event and the new prescriptions Hope this help. ❤️❤️❤️

in reply toJenWro

Thank you for your help, they have given me lanzoprozole, but think I need to ask about the dose maybe ?

Qualipop profile image
Qualipop in reply to

It could be the aspirin. You could try enteric coated aspirin which doesn't dissolve until it gets past the stomach

in reply toQualipop

Yes I think it is a coated one, thanks tho :)

Hi I was on omeprazole pre HA , then put on lansaprozle after it to protect the stomach from the aspirin I take in the mornings , I'm on 15mg lansaprozle am and pm and this seems to work for me ,Good luck

in reply toBluelobby

Thank you for your help, yes the aspirin is am and lanzoprozole am with the other meds, then the statin at pm. I’m keeping everything crossed for good MRI result then maybe I can get rid of some of the meds 🤞

hi springerspaniallady. I had the same as you. They change omeorazole for Lansoprazole ( it’s a stronger dose) and I bought enteric coated aspirin because the doctors would not pass them. They are cheap and you can get them in the chemist. I was slightly breathless and had almost an indigestion feeling. You will find it hard to start with all these meds , it upsets your body to begin with . If it continues your doctor can jig your tablets to find one that agrees with you better. Dint forget after heart events we are all very anxious , not at all at ease with anything. Every twinge will seem like a mountain to cross. But it all gets better. All the very best to you and dint be afraid to stand up for yourself. Sometimes you have to just be persistent.

I take a big glue of gavisgon if that fails I take two puffs of GTN under the tongue for hiatus hernia that plays up bad so ask your GP or if you have one gastroenterologist

Good luck
