Radial artery graft

Hi, I was just wondering if there are others on here who have had their radial artery used for CABG and wondered how long it took for pins and needles to subside in your arm. I am 8 months post op and still experiencing wierd sensations in my arm.

I’m sorry I can’t help but it could be worth giving the BHF nurses helpline a call tomorrow and see what they advise. Alternatively, you could also contact your GP or cardiologist if you have one to ask about post op complications or symptoms.

The number for the BHF nurses is below.

0808 802 1234

I hope the pins and needles subside soon.

All the best.

Thanks for reply and contact number... I'm not sure the issue is a complication , just wondering whether I can expect it to stop anytime soon!

I don’t think it is a complication either. I do experience pins and needles in my arm, but I usually put it down to either angina or an irritated nerve somewhere. I’m sorry I can’t advise on the recovery. I really do hope it settles soon though.

Hi I had that removed. I still suffer some pain in the large pad at the base of my thumb 20 months later.I asked the consultant and he said there is nothing they would do about it and to try physio. I haven't yet but will be giving it a try

Hi!I had a triple bypass 13 months ago and the radial was used as one of the grafts. I still have fizziness/numbness in my thumb and the thumb pad down to my wrist. To be honest my knee is still numb from my thigh graft and my chest/left breast is still numb from my mamary artery graft. My cardiologist said its normal to still have these sensations. Great! Wouldn't mind but all my grafts failed so a complete waste of time and suffering.

Hope yours heals soon. Good luck!

Gosh... Just read your bio... You have had a rough journey! Makes my odd sensations pale to insignificance! Fingers crossed all well now.

Of course it's significant, it's not a nice feeling but one we have to put up with I'm afraid. A registrar did once say they can give you something to treat the nerve pain if it's a real problem so it might be worth getting back to them to ask?

No, not sorted unfortunately. Just found out my sternum hasn't healed properly. More surgery on Monday. Urghh!! 🤪
