Tiredness, fatigue from Dapagliflozin? Heart failure

theonethatgotaway1 profile image

Does anyone get seriously tired and/or fatigued soon after taking Dapagliflozin? Because I take many meds for the heart failure, I split morning and evening but take the dapa midday! And soon after on the afternoon is when I am super tired and fatigued which can bring on serious anxiety. I am not sure if its just the heart failure as well.

Would Dapagliflozin be best taken at night time?

hi. I’m on entresto, Dapa and bisoprolol. I think they are all candidates for causing fatigue. I take all mine in the morning and could quite happily nap in the afternoon. I find that as soon as I eat something at lunch time (even something very light) my fatigue knocks me sideways. I spoke to my gp about the fatigue and the only medication he was prepared to alter was bisoprolol (which he reduced) he said the Dapa and entresto were too important to change. It’s a real balancing act between quantity and quality of life for me. Of course it could also be my heart failure although I’m told that it’s mild at the moment X

Sorry you are feeling tired. I actually have a lie down in the afternoon just to rest my muscles but appreciate I'm lucky to have that time. I take it in the morning plus a bunch of things too and other stuff at lunch and evening. If you are on a loop diuretic as well it's always worth having an electrolyte test for potassium levels (just blood) as tiredness can be caused by a temporary unbalance. I split my beta blocker in morning lunch and evening to overcome lethargy. And recently the cardio tweaked it back. Always worth mentioning this to Cardio as tweaking is their speciality. Good luck. X

Thank you. Yes I also take the betas separately like this. It seemed to work better this way but now it seems to have got worse for tiredness.

I think it's kind of a diuretic so added to all the loo visits, maybe some nutrients go down a bit? I was fine for everything until Dapa. Also keep an eye on bp? Low bp makes me v lethargic. Remember though...Man/woman cannot eat the bananas required for daily potassium needed. 😂 x

Hi, that's interesting that dapagliflozin makes you tired. When my husband started taking it a couple of years ago within 2 weeks he noticed a big increase in his energy levels, he did say he hadn't realised how slow he'd become prior to taking it. I've heard a few people say their energy levels improved when they went on it. I assume it must affect people differently or maybe a combination of your meds etc.

I think I would ask your medical team if that could be the reason for your tiredness and if it's better taken at night.

Good luck

I'm on the same meds as anon2023, plus spironolactone. Heart failure (LBBB) discovered when I went for pre-op assessment for hip replacement in Feb. Had a CRT-P pacemaker fitted in June. Spoke to cardio nurse last week as I too get very tired, she said I might have an iron deficiency so will have a blood test to check that. Thought having a pacemaker would mean I wasn't so tired but not so. Still waiting for a date for my hip ( one of the 7 million +)...

Hi I’m on the same meds. I’m not sure what causes the tiredness. I also have persistent AFib. On Friday the cardiologist was checking my heart and he said to me I’m in Afib and I thought no wonder I can hardly breath, but I can’t feel it as such. I just feel tired and put everything down to heart failure. I don’t even think the professionals know. I was absolutely shattered by the time I got home. Like someone said is it the meds or the illnesses, who knows.

the cardiologist added it to my husbands collection of meds last month. He told him to take it in the morning as it will increase urine output which isn’t a good thing during the night. He already has sleep problems

Hi I can relate my experience with Dapagliflozin it was not good I was extremely tired lost around 3 kilos weight and my blood pressure went very low all in about 6 weeks and had to cease taking it as it was deemed unsuitable in my case hope you have a better experience than myself as it works for lots of people 😀

Yeh I was really tired the first couple weeks and it seemed to settle. But recently after more than 6 months it seems to have started up again. Literally after taking the tablet within half hour I could fall asleep standing! Going to have a word with doc. Might just take on a evening.
