Update from 1st appointment with cardiologist

Good morning everyone heres update on meHad 1st cardiologist appt yday then slept much better as now I know whats to come

Have 2 problems, palpitation crisis triggered by my system upset by recent antibiotics can be controlled with meds just need dose adjustment as they took me off my previous med and replaced with modern better version but didnt give me enough at first hence the terrible week i had and the 2nd visit to AE

Next few weeks will have another CT scan to check arteries veins aorta and all other heart valves then an appt with surgeon and onto his waiting list.

Within next 6 months or so (depending on strikes etc):will have major full open heart surgery on a bypass machine to replace aortic valve and any thing else that may need attention,

I have a very stiff bicuspid aortic valve I was probably born with it but has now stiffened with age but he says my heart is strong so I should be ok

tho there are risks with all ops

My Lvf % 67 same as my age

Im type 2 diabetic but he congratulated me on my blood sugar control and weightloss journey

I have no choice as left untreated as you all know prognosis over next few years is bad

So have to be very brave indeed and get my head round this

Our holiday next spring to Spain is cancelled

You never know whats coming in life do

you !

All the best everyone and thank you for yr support in being here

Carole

Ah glad you had your first cardiology appointment, sounds like you have a lot to go through in the next few months ❤️. Have you got severe aortic stenosis?? I have bicuspid aortic valve severe aortic regurgitation and moderate stenosis and like you will eventually need valve replacement surgery big major surgery x. Hope all your appointments come through quickly and your not waiting too long for surgery once your on waiting list! All the best and keep us updated with everything 😘

Thanks so much yes mines severe but I thought some of the symptoms were my diabetes which has been very variable over the years

Little did I know

Its taken them 67 years to figure it out lol

Wow 67 years you done well to go so far with a valve like that mine has taken 25 years to get to Severe aortic regurgitation and moderate stenosis so hopefully not to long to wait now 🙈. I can't believe they didn't pick up on it sooner?? 🤔X

Actually when i was 18 a college doc referred me to univ hosp Cardiff for a check on suspected murmur, That cardiologist just told me to go out dancing and lose some weight did nothing further abt murmur

I was all of 10+stone then and he gave me a weight complex lasting the next 50 Years leading me yo yoing up and down and becoming morbidly obese in my 30s

My diabetes started then but wasnt diagnosed for abt 10 yrs till age 42

Eventually i got my weight down now 11.5 stones

Life is a roller coaster

I see you have had a LOT to deal with at such a young age

The knowing and having a plan explained is so useful, although I would say don't bank on 6 months to surgery. It will obviously depend on your condition and hospital location but my 6 months is approaching 9 now, October being best guess which will take it to 10.

Thank you

No Im not holding my breath for 6 months lol, if it goes to 8 Ill be having it for my birthday lol

Good luck

Hello :-)

Reading your reply this all sounds positive that may sound crazy saying that but for what you are going through there is a plan and something can be done which has to be a positive :-)

Sorry that you have had to cancel your Holiday but think of all the Holidays to come in the future and knowing you have had treatment when you do go on Holiday again and no doubt with less worry and feeling fitter than you have in a while

When I was told I had to have a triple Bypass or I would only maybe have 2 years the shock and fear was unreal as I am a wreck anyway but in the end I told myself this has to be done I am in safe hands as they do this kind of thing all the time and I got through it so you will get through your op when it comes along to and you have here to come and ask for support which helped me so much

Well done getting your sugars stable and your weight loss and Thank you for the update :-) x

thanks so much it really helps to be on here, I have always been an anxious worrier having had all sorts of treatments for that BUT now I'm older I have gained a bit of inner strength which I used 2 yrs ago when my dear Mum passed away aged 91, as an only c hild I had to dig deep for that with support of my lovely family, this will be as tough but I feel she will be looking down on me x

Hello :-)

I have always been an anxious person to I am 60 now and not sure where my inner strength is I am still waiting bit so glad you found yours :-)

Your Mum was a good age even though I know the loss is still the same and for sure she will be looking down on you when I had my op everyone said your Mum will be with you and make sure everything is ok and that thought really helped me and I do believe she was like yours will to :-)

Glad you have family to support you to as well as we are always here when you need someone to talk to or ask questions :-)
