So I'm in hospital.. (first ever overnighter)

So following my last post things haven't got better (obviously).

Went on a UK holiday with family for a week and had a few incidents. Crazy high heart rate, chest pains, panic attacks.

Visited emergency care centre whilst away and after an ECG they suggested that I need a cardio appointment. Went to my GP Friday when I got back who changed my beta blocked to Bisoprolol. I thought, OK let's get this weekend out the way and then I'm off to see works private Cardiologist again Tuesday (for stress and echo test).

Didn't go that way! Got up with kids yesterday morning and my chest was hurting more than ever before. I had an instance of severe pain and going pale/clammy. Pontificated about going to A&E for hours as I feel like I'm wasting time & resources, but eventually I called in as the pain didn't improve. Typically gets to hospital, normal ecg and bloods (despite having an episode in the waiting room which they didn't manage to get me on ECG for 40mins), finally a doctor examined me, looked at my history, asked loads questions, admitted me and gave me a chest x-ray.

X-ray is normal (thankfully), but after speaking to a couple of doctors they believe I may have Angina. A cardiologist is going to come see me today to see if they agree with this doctors course of action which is GTN spray, some other medication (which I didn't catch the name of) and a referral to cardiology for a CT Angiogram etc.

To add to the pot it looks like I may have IBS so a referral to Gastro is also being made.

I'm please I'm being seen to but equally I'm bloody peeved and upset that at 41 that I'm falling to bits so quickly 😞

The drugs they give you for angina worked a treat for me.....they took a bit of getting used to but it was worth the effort.

The GTN spray is a miracle worker, after seeing it's effects when I started having "pains" I began using it proactively in situations where I knew my angina pains would kick in, for example before walking up a big hill...infact before doing anything strenuous.

Hope all goes well.

They didn't give them me in the end. Just upped my bisoprolol and referred me for a 7 day monitor and a CT Angio.

don’t let them fob you off and after you get the ct angio get the images and get them double checked as I had 2 and the same radiologist missed the first then dint report on the second don’t trust anybody you know your own body, push and push I mean that and I paid private for last 12 years,if he reported mine my life could be a lot different, anxiety is a cardiologist’s favourite word I’ve gone thro 12 of them and you realise after time they are no different to tradesmen it’s just the heart is their craft, you may know 100 plumbers but only 2 mite be any good if your lucky🤣

Cardiologist didn't think Angina likely but has booked me an Echo, CT and 7 day monitor.

Upped my Bisoprolol and sent me on my way.

Hello :-)

You are not dropping to bits at all just a few little hiccups to sort out and then you will be ok so many at your age have little bits go wrong we just don't always get to hear about them

I have IBS and had it started in my 20's it is quite a common thing even though I must admit it can get you down learning how to cope with it and these medications I take play havoc with mine even though I have learnt what foods will trigger it of but again you will get it sorted and adjust where you have to with what you eat etc

There is an IBS Community on here not sure if you have seen it I will put you the link on that might be worth taking a look at

Let us know how you get on :-) x

It seems odd that it just started so suddenly. Going to keep on at the GP about it but I've only got so much head and worry space! Think I'll concentrate on the ticker for now.

I'm off to see her tomorrow for a review of my anxiety meds. I think after the last few months I might pick up the chair and anxiously whop her one with it 😆

Hi anxious guy. Please don’t see yourself as “falling to bits age 41” else I was falling to bits at birth with 2 holes in the heart! Yet I still raced my older sisters up Cader Idris mountain age 8 cos we have a different attitude to sickness at that age! I only started having panic attacks after they’d put me right with open heart surgery age 15, even though physically I was cured. That was 55 years ago and I’ve had a full and healthy life since. My point is that you’ll get through the anxious phase and soon forget you had anything wrong with you. It takes time to get treatments right (and for anxiety to reduce) and results are rarely instant. So be patient with yourself!

I think you're right to focus on the most important thing. It's very difficult during an appointment with a GP or cardiologist to stay clear headed because my experience is they blind you with too much irrelevant information. If you can, keep in your mind your main concern only and don't leave until you feel happy they have fully answered it in a way you understand.

Oh bless. I was in my early 40s when my heart kicked off and I felt the same, there are many on here who first got diagnosed around 40s. At least you’re still young and no matter how you’re feeling you will deal with it, and eventually whatever it is you will come to terms with it. I hope you find out what it is. I’m sure they did blood tests which showed you didn’t have a heart attack. Keep pushing for a diagnosis and let us know. All the best.

So! GP was much of a muchness. Didn't hit her with the chair lol. I've got some Lansoprazole as she thinks the anxiety meds could be causing acid reflux (err chest pain was before anxiety meds). Not much else to report. Off to Cardiologist today who's also written me off as an anxiety case but is giving me some tests anyway. Will give an update when I know more.
