Does the cold affect your chest

I have recently been finding that when the weather is starting to get colder, it starts to affect my chest and lungs meaning that I have a constant chesty cough which remain with me for a long time. Cardiology have informed me that its normal to have a chesty cough with mitral valve disease and they are not sure why.

Does anyone have any advise around what to do with the weather slowly getting a little colder?

Hope I have worded this all correctly

I’m sorry to hear that the cold is affecting you. I have something called vasospastic angina which can trigger my angina and coronary artery spasms. When the weather gets cold, especially when it drops to 10 degrees or lower, I either wear a mask or cover my face with a scarf to reduce the amount of cold air I’m breathing in. It’s not 100% effective, but it definitely helps me breathe a little better and keeps my angina at bay for a short while.

I hope others come by with suggestions.

All the best.

I have the same problem when it starts to get colder and like Tos92 I either wear a mask or wrap a scarf round over my mouth. Best wishes.

Only reason I wore a mask outside during the period I probably can't name was that I was told by a nurse that it helped to warm the air which put less strain on my heart. If using a scarf, don't make the mistake I did when mask-wearing got embarrassing and use one that's too thick.

With coughs, check the side-effects on any medication you're taking. A recent bad cough turned out to be due to bad acid-reflux, which was a rare side-effect of an antibiotic I had been prescribed for a skin infection.
