I find I can't eat the butter substitutes. I just spread butter thinly, I only butter one side of a sandwich
This is the best I've found
I also use proactiv. There are several versions including one with olive oil. Its best get in the fridge so it doesn't get too soft.
Yes this is the "Buttery Taste" one, and I think the best of the bunch if you want the closest to the real thing. Definitely keep in the fridge - can't imagine why one wouldn't?! 🤔🙂
We leave butter out of the fridge during the day in cooler weather as straight from the fridge it doesn't spread well. Proactiv is already quite soft so leaving it out would render it unpleasantly soft. There are plenty of other spreads of course but some have quite dubious ingredients or taste very greasy
None of them. Just make sure you read the ingredients and understand what they are. I don't eat much bread etc so don't have much butter but I wouldn't change to spreads. My personal opinion of course and I'm sure others will disagree .
I use Pro Active like the rest, can't say it tastes like butter but it's fine and it does you some good so worth the compromise
I would stick to butter but use sparingly. It at least has vitamin K2 (which is good for the heart) in it I think. Spreads are full of chemicals and rubbish.
Hi .. I don't really have much spread or bread but taste wise either Flora plant butter or Naturli certainly have the taste ..hope this helps
I am also merely adding as a counter - I only use pure real butter (and ghee)! I believe it to be healthier and I try to avoid ultra processed foods overall.
Benecol with Olive Oil is the best
I asked my Doctor about using spreads and he said butter, in moderation, We use Lidl Danpak as it's just butter and vegetable oil (less oil than Aldi) nice taste and spreads easily.
Another thumbs up for Danepak. It's basically lurpak spreadable at half three price. There was a very interesting program about margarines and spreadd some years ago, and the general consensus was just don't. They are highly processed and full of all sorts of chemical crap
I read that butter is better than spread but should be used sparingly, which I find a problem 😅as I love butter, we use lurpak spreadable, char
I changed to spreads, then was told that natural butter is best as the spreads are filled with other ingredients xx
I have to say I dislike those butter substitutes I have tried! I’m
Of the mind that if I can’t have the real thing I’d rather have nothing and to be honest, I haven’t really missed it despite the fact that I used to slather a baked potato or toast in gallons of butter!
Yeah going a long the lines of 'the dose makes the poison'. Sparing use of what you like is better and more sustainable for me so I don't I overload on other stuff that would wipe out the progress. We are a clover light family...
Stick to butter. All these spreads and margarines are ultra processed and not good for you
I would stick to butter and, as my mum used to say after the war, spread it on then scrape it off. It's surprising how much comes off
I used to eat these low fat spreads. At my annual review the nurse said butter is a better choice. Result! It's now Lurpak or Anchor.
I went from butter to spreads, which I didn't really enjoy esp because of processing, then I tried olive oil, and ever since i'll never go back to a spread (or butter)...makes me feel sophisticated 😂
Flora plant butter has got to be my favourite now!!! Good luck. Jan xxxx
I avoid margarine types because I don't trust the processing and there's so much advertising it smacks of profits over health. I think ghee, butter, clarified butter, olive oil, mayonnaise or avocado oil are safer.
I’ve tried all kinds of spreads, lighter spreadable butters and would rather do without. They do not taste anything like butter. I now have dry toast with my egg or just toast with sugar free marmalade or jam. It’s a miserable breakfast in comparison with buttered toast but better than substitutes. My GP suggested having butter at weekends but I don’t think that would work for me. My husband is perfectly happy with the substitutes whatever they are I don’t think he has any tastebuds lol). I’m used to not having butter on my jacket potato and don’t miss it. However I had breakfast out today of poached eggs on buttered toasted sourdough. The eggs were boring but the toast delicious lol.
It's sad to see you having a miserable breakfast without a smear of butter in your toast and with sugar free conserves. I decided years ago that proper food in moderation and something I could enjoy was infinitely preferable to going without or substituting something that maybe wasnt very good for me. So I suggest you indulge in a smear of butter on your toast and ditch the sugar free conserves which are full of manmade sweeteners which have a very dubious background and return to a quality brand of conserve which uses sugar. But if you feel guilty in doing this just eat a little less and it will still bring a smile to your face
I stopped using those awful spreads years ago. Now I only use butter but if making certain savoury sandwiches will use a drizzle of olive oil instead.

Lidl Daisy spread is as good as the named brands and a lot cheaper!
As everyone has said before I go for proper butter but I actually whip it together with olive oil and make my own spread.Spreads easier to put on a small amount on bread , you can have a little more on potatoes and it adds a nice nutty taste.
I also whip up flavoured butters with the olive oil and either tomato , sun-dried tomatoes, tomato puree , avacado , anchovies or olives as it reduces the butter content even more but adds a nice flavour to the dishes I use it on.
