Good morning.....is your weight gain rapid and have you noticed any breathlessness? If you are suddenly feeling bloated and are already on fluid retention medication it may mean it's not working adequately enough or you need a stronger dose. I am not medically trained but like so many others on the forum, have heart issues and we do recognise certain things or symptoms, so what I am saying is only advice based on personal experience. You mention you have a leaky valve and are already waiting for heart surgery so I would almost certainly recommend you insist seeing your gp or make a visit to A and E. Sudden fluid build up if you already have a heart issue needs attention or at least a check to make sure all is ok and you also need to put your mind at ease about it. I hope you get it sorted. All the best x
Hi. I agree with Larneybuds. I was gaining 0.5 kilos per day as a result of my constrictive pericarditis and developed atrial arrythmia. I contacted my GP as it had reached a very uncomfortable stage and I was admitted for a course of IV Furosemide. After a week, most of the fluid was gone (I lost 10kg in weight) as had the arrythmia (so cardioversion was not necessary!). They switched me to the same dose of tablet form of Furosemide before sending me home and my weight has remained stable since then (touch wood). Btw, if my GP had not been able to help I would have gone to A&E.
I agree, this is something which needs proper medical attention. Do you have the option of a female GP?
And what treatment are you getting for the aneurysm. You should at least be having your blood pressure well controlled (120/80 or less). And is it an abdominal or thoracic aneurysm?
I presume they have done a full thyroid panel before any op. Ask for the results, and if they have not done the thyroid checks, get them to do so. Rapid weight gain is a symptom of thyroid problems. Make sure it is a full panel with TSH, T4, T3 and antibodies. Good luck!
