Weight gain

Hi everyone, it’s been just over a year now that I had my heart attack. Iv made such a great recovery and I feel great. The only downside is my weight. I go to the gym 2/3 times a week but I really need to put some weight back on. Do any know whether or not it’s a good idea to take protein shakes ?? Xx

If you are going to a reputable gym they should be able to point you in the right direction to someone who can help. They may just point you back to GP or Cardiology though.

Hi Lynn, I am 6 month in, quickly lost close to 20kg and most of my body fat, so I don't look good. The statins I am taking are sucking all the fat out of my blood and that is taking it from my body fat.

When it first happened I got worried, but I am not carrying that 18kg around any more, I feel better, it is much easier on my arthritic knees, so I can a walk a few km without much pain.

I have a rule, "if man made it don't eat it", I want to know exactly what goes into what I eat and don't trust these quick fix things. I try to chose the correct foods and my weight has stabiliesed.

I told my cardio and he didn't seem bothered, so I just don't look in to many mirrors and try to tone up.

Keep up the good work at the gym.

I was told if it’s got a bum & a Mum don’t eat it 😅

But do you eat it or did you listen to. Mum! 🥩

in reply toLezzers

No I mean if the food you eat has a bum and a Mum don’t eat it. For example, pork ie a pig 🐷 has a bum and a Mum.

I did actually understand it! Doesn't answer my question though?

Oh Lynn I do know how you feel. I lost almost 2 stone after open heart surgery last year so went from dress size 14 to size 10. At 5 foot seven, 57 kilos is too little and I have struggled to put on any weight despite eating whatever I want!

I have just returned from a weeks All Inclusive and am .7 of a kilo lighter than the day I went!

My scar from surgery looks like a zip and I avoid mirrors at all costs.

Cardiac Rehab won't touch me at the moment so I can't even "bulk up"!

I feel like I am turning in to my mum who passed aged 92 weighing just 6 stone despite all my efforts to feed her up!

Hi Lynn1966, how much weight would you like ? I can give you 5 stone! I go to the gym three times a week, look after our 2 year old grandson one day a week and haven't lost an ounce! Watching what I eat, no processed rubbish, but getting fed up and exercise daily. Would love a gastric bypass! Take care .

Thanks for all your replies. Spoke to someone at the gym, spoke to a nutritionist and all I get is I have to speak to my doctor. Spoke to my doctor and basically this is the new me.. I’m going to increase my food intake and see how that goes , also I’ve given myself a kick up the backside as at the end off the day I’m here and that’s more important than an anything else.. I also see my mum when I look in the mirror, sadly mum passed away last year. I always said she was beautiful so I suppose I take after her 😬😫XX

One of my co-workers has always been very slim. When she is under pressure she often loses weight. We have discovered that for her the only way to put it on is to eat much more protein than she normally eats.

She can eat as much ready meals, crisps, chocolate etc but she won’t put on weight until the protein increases!

Not sure if that’s very helpful but interesting.
