How long until stent improves angina symptoms?

I got a stent on a LAD blockage just over 2 weeks ago and had high hopes that my angina symptoms would disappear. However this has not been the case so far. I feel pretty much the same as before, getting a burning chest sensation when walking and felling breathless occasionally at rest.

Is it possible that I just need to wait a while longer for the stent to produce any improvements ?

Hello Bizzy55. My first stent eliminated symptoms immediately. Later I had some pain which turned out to be indigestion. Have you talked this over with your GP or other qualified practitioner?

Thanks Keder. I talked to my GP this week and we considered the possibility that my symptoms were not cardiac in the first place. I have a hiatal hernia and recently learned that I have stomach ulcers. So before I further pursue a gastointestinal angle, I just wanted to check if delayed stent effect is a possibility.

Bizzy55, I hope you get your problems sorted.

I seem to be fortunate in only having to deal with severe heart failure (HF). I had more stents fitted shortly after the first went in. Fourteen months later a second heart attack hit me which did a load of damage. Now my LAD must resemble a braided steel brake hose.

No further chest pain but just in case, I carry a GTN spray wherever I go.

HF has completely changed my life.

At least I can still play the piano which keeps me sane.

I can only share my own experiences. I was told it takes about 2 weeks for things to settle down and return to normal. For me it was approximately 18 months before I started having days without chest pain. I think it is different for everyone.

If it continues, do seek medical advice, but honestly, 2 weeks is no time all.

Most of the time, yes, I am pain free. Occasionally I get chest pain (maybe a couple of days a month) but I believe it is indigestion.

i had three stents fitted last year and suffered really bad heart burn which was being caused by the asprin i was taking so this was stopped and i had my anti acid changed i do have a hiatus hernia so burning in chest did happen sometimes but this was really bad so if your on asprin it could be that is causing your problem and it does take a while for the stents to settle in so try and have a chat with your GP or cardiac dept
