Hi all I had a stent put in yesterday and I was fine after the procedure. Woke in the night with mild angina pain but managed to fall back to sleep eventually. The pain is worse today...constant when resting. Gt spray does nothing to relieve the pain. Same with Relosorb.
Just wondering if this is normal after a stent?

Ohh I really do regret agreeing to have stent done yesterday. Didn't need to have it because artery was only 50% blockage. Now I'm in a worse position than I was prior to stent. Honestly think I reached a point whereby I just want to surrender and let the worse happen. Enough is enough. Sincere thanks you for your reply Milkfairy and fishface101
Please do call the hospital where you had the stent inserted. Don't be shy of calling 111 or 999 if you have chest pain that isn't relieved by 3 sprays of GTN 5 minutes apart.
Unless you had it done privately, the intense pressure on medical resources would mean you wouldn't have had a stent inserted unless it was considered absolutely necessary.
It took me six weeks after my bypass before I felt vaguely normal and no matter your age you won't recover from your operation instantly.
If it is causing you concern immediately phone the cardiology section where you had the stent and try to speak to someone-there is usually a dedicated nurse who can answer your queries. They should be your first port of call but failing that, a call to 111 would be in order.
I found the mental stress of my operation to be as bad as the physical pain and it seems as if you are in a similar position. Don't give up. Phone someone NOW!
I am sorry for what you are going through. Please forgive me but I thought you could only get unstable angina through exertion. Correct me if I am wrong please.x
Hi, stable angina is brought on by exertion, unstable angina can happen anytime without warning no exertion required. My first occurrence was in bed at night. 🙂
I had unstable angina for years, ended up with 12 stents at various times from 1995 - 2019. I could get angina pain at any time including resting and waking up when asleep. I had a triple by pass and aortic valve replacement last year and a pacemaker in January and am feeling really good now and pain free.
Hi DizzyDI've had 2 stents over the last 3 years and jave not had angina. The stents were to stop the angina. Perhaps a call to your GP would be best., or 111 if you are really concerned. Good luck
I had a stent fitted to the LAD in 2011. In the week or two after the procedure I too woke up in the middle of the night with chest pain similar to angina. I consulted my GP and got an immediate appointment. He took blood (I think it was to test for troponin levels, but not sure). Result came back very soon to confirm no heart event. He also referred me to my local cardiology department. I was given a fairly prompt appointment there, had an exercise/ECG test which I apparently passed with ease and therefore was given reassurance that, for me, things really couldn’t be better. They were right and I’ve had a very active subsequent 12 years.
First step is to contact your GP or dial 111/999 if symptoms are severe. Best wishes.
It seems strange to stent a 50% blockage. After my HA and two stents they found two more blockages that were around 64%; just below NHS guidelines. They said blood was flowing freely so they wouldn't stent them. I'm now left wondering after 5 years, whether they've got worse as I've got very breathless. You should seek help right away. Personally I had no pain at all after my stents but I know some people do.
I don`t know about `normal` but suffice to say this. The stent is correcting the over-blood supply to a part of your body. The stent has corrected that `bulge`, so the blood supply is being restricted. Hence the `pain`. Your muscles are screaming " where`s all that lovely blood I used to get?"
Take it easy, let the body and tablets do their work and listen/read what you were given.
My three were put in in 2011 and it took a looooooong time to feel better. Relaxxxx and each day will feel better.
