Angina symptoms

Hello All,

It's good to be here. I'm a 64 year old male. Two stents, bypass, ablation for AFib, pacemaker, but ongoing angina symptoms due to arterial disease that consultants are not wanting to address initially through surgery (another stent/bubble) due to risk of compromising the bypass.

What I'm trying to get my head round, is whether to avoid activities that bring on chest pains, breathlessness etc (which include walking more than short distances, lifting heavy objects, cold weather, too hot weather..) or whether to try and do all the things i want to and accept that that the symptoms (which slow me down for the rest of the day when they come on) will occur.

If increased frequency of symptoms lead to greater risk of a heart Event, then i guess i'll have to live a more sedentary life :-(

Altho, hey I'm still here! (thanks to good ol' NHS)

Hello,

I am sorry no one has answered your query.

This is perhaps because we're a support group and can't give medical advice.

I suggest you give the BHF helpline a call and speak to one of the cardiac nurses who will be able to help you further.

thanks for getting back. I agree everyone’s situation is different. I’d just wondered how others may have approached presumably similar issues.

The thing is we are all different and what works for one may not work for another. You haven't mentioned when you had your stent(s) or bypass and if fairly recent would explain the hesitation. Milkfairy's advice is sound talk to someone who may be able to help & reassure you. Sometimes we need to take ourselves in hand and may be change lifestyle a little or in some cases a lot. Quite a few of us have been there & got more than the T-shirt but by listening to our own bodies are still here to tell the tale.
