BNP Test

Had BNP test, result was 214 ng/L, GP said to come off meds as this was a normal reading, meds are 2.5mg Ramipril and same for Bisoprolol. Does anyone know if this reading is fine, I was on the meds when test was done so wondering if anyone else has had this and what the levels/guidelines are. I have started to reduce meds but just seeking anyone's experience of the same.

Hi vonniee,

My latest bnp was 2900 so I'd say yours were quite low. I have heart faluire with ef 27%.

My consultant says they can be 30+k. So your is pretty good.

Hope that helps. J

Thank you for you reply. I suppose my only concern is if being on the meds could have given a better reading than if I was off them at the time. And everyone has always said to keep taking the tablets. I hope you keep well and things improve for you too. Thanks again.

I was told figures up to 300 was normal , unlikely to be heartfailure, mine was 1580 now on Rampiril,Bisoporil and Apixaban with moderate to sever heartfailure, also have CKF Egfr 31,but feel ok, so dont worry,,,,

My knowledge is that a normal BNP s usually less than 100 in people under 70 years of age. It is usually measured in picograms per ml but the figure is the same if measured in nanograms per litre because picogram is 1000 times smaller than a nanogram. Ramipril is a very useful medicine in heart failure as it also tones the heart muscle. A 2.5mg/day dose is quite common. Of course values of BNP vary from laboratory to laboratory and there are other versions of BNP. Since your quoted values are nearly double what I have quoted, it would be prudent to consult the doctor again to confirm that the BNP type is different and within normal limits. Regards.

Thanks alot for your reply and explaining the different measurements, that's where it gets confusing for me. I had a feeling it wasn't right and I have actually got GP appointment for 2cd opinion. That really has helped me understand better. Thanks again.
