So sorry to read of your troubles π Really hope things improve soon. Im totally struggling with the heat. Making me very breathless with even a gentle walk π€¦π½ββοΈ
Oh dear, that's no good. My mum has the same infection right now, so I know how awful it can make you feel. Does it help if you take the antibiotics after food, on a full stomach? I hope they start working soon and that you feel better. β€οΈ
I would definitely like some of your summer sun, as it's winter here in Australia and quite chilly.
I am sorry your Mum as got one to they are so unpleasant I hope she feels better soon
Mine say take just after a meal so that is what I do but still they upset your stomach like they are doing now
I always find it so strange you are there chilly it is Winter we are here boiling it is Summer yet at Christmas you are outside in the Sun eating Christmas dinner and we are inside cold and hoping for snow , well some of us do
Thankyou, yes I'm keeping fairly well at the moment. I often wish for a white Christmas and imagine how fun it would be, but I settle for enjoying watching Christmas movies, as there's always snow in them!
What's your idea of quite chilly? One Oz person I spoke to said that once the temperature reached 16 degrees they went indoors and put the heating on. I said that here in UK once the temperature reached 16 degrees we went on the beach!!ππ
Hehehe, yes I'd agree at 16 degrees I'd probably be inside with the heater on! It's been about a max of 18 in the day this week where I am. Still nice if you sit in the sun, but by 3pm it's dropping to 15 or 16, so time to go indoors.
I am so sorry to hear of your water infection. That is painful and can make you feel terrible. I hope that the meds help clear it out very soon.
Do you know offhand what your outside temperature is in Fahrenheit degrees? For my hot weather, I keep a secret stash of sugar-free popsicles in my freezer, but I love the sound of the fruity ice cubes.
Well, I am hoping for the nice day! π€ it is only 9:30 am here, so we shall see.
I think that I mentioned before that I lived in Texas for over 10 years. When I first went there, I flew from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Dallas, Texas. This was in August, and the temperature in Pittsburgh was about 86 degrees F and humid. When I got off the plane in Dallas, it was 104 F and dry. I felt like my lungs were being sucked out of my body. Lol π It took me a long time to get used to that heat.
I hope that you have a lovely dayβmaybe a little cooler.
Lol! Actually, after the 10 years, I moved back to West Virginia. I donβt think that I ever really got used to days being over 100 degrees and hardly ever any rain.
In WV, our normal summer temperature is about 86 F, but we usually have high humidity. Since my HA, I struggle with high temperatures.
I am going back to see a cardiologist at the end of June to try to find out what is causing all of my breathing problems. Almost daily, I struggle (even sitting at rest) to take a breath. Sometimes, it actually feels better after walking or doing some household chore. It has the same feeling as trying to breathe during a panic attack, but I donβt think that I am panicking. Anyway, I hope that we can get it figured out. I had a chest CT scan about a month ago, so maybe the cardiologist can still use that data.
I hope that you feel better today, BeKind28. Try to enjoy your garden if it is not too hot. β€οΈ
What made you move to America if I have got that right and do you miss the UK if I have
When you said West Virginia made me start singing the song
So your Summers are always like what we now seem to be getting these last 2 years
I am sorry to hear you are struggling with breathing problems glad you have had an xray and hopefully will be able to find out why and hope you tell us how that goes
I am having terrible side effects from these antibiotics I am having to take but thank you for asking
I cannot sit out yet in the garden it is to hot for me I wait till it is cooler
Iβm actually American, but an Anglophile. I love British literature, art, architecture, etc. I was an English major in undergraduate college. I had the opportunity to visit the UK in 1976, and I loved it! I lived there from August through December of that year. I traveled all around England and Scotland, but I lived in Oxford.
We also love the John Denver song, βCountry Roads.β We sing it at all of the West Virginia University football games when we win. Plus, it is now officially one of our state songs.
Yes, our summers are filled with 80+ degree Fahrenheit days. Plus, we tend to have high humidity, so it can get uncomfortable. This week we have mainly had 70 degree days with low humidityβvery nice π! I wish that it could stay cooler, but it wonβt.
Thank you for the lovely chat today! It cheered me up, and I learned the correct term for ice pops. π
I hope that you have had a good day, and that you feel better.
I really enjoyed reading your reply and thank you for sharing that with me as well as it is a small world as we say as I am not to far from Oxford I know it well
I thought you called it Soccer games where you are and we say football
We have as our Anthem for the England games "Sweet Caroline " but you might already know that
You certainly do have it hot and I do not like it when it is humid so you do well coping as good as you do
I am getting side effects from the antibiotics but to be expected I always do even though I do not like it but I can tell they are starting to work thank you for asking
I think it can be good to get to know more about people if they are willing to share that is on Communities and this post is great for that opportunity as well as Andys crap jokes
I have enjoyed talking to you and getting to know you a lottle more to x
Lol! Thatβs a good question. I did not live in Pittsburghβjust flew out from the airport so I honestly donβt know. Iβve also gone on river cruises there and to the Three Rivers Arts Festival, but Iβm not really familiar with the city. π
Sorry if I misled you but it's a line from a song by Guy Mitchell going back to the 50s. " There's a pawn shop on a corner in Pittsburgh Pensylvania" but you are probably too young to have heard it.π.
Lol! I am sorry that I missed the musical reference. Sometimes, I am way too literal.
Well, I didnβt hear it when it actually was made, but my favorite music is usually from the 1940s. I especially enjoy Billie Hollidayβs music, Fred Astaire, and others from that time period. I used to stream a lovely station from the UK that played war time music (WWII).
This medication I have to take for it makes you feel dreadful but seems the one they say you have to take you just cannot wait till you have finished the course
So you keep an eye on us what is happening here your Son is living in the UK then ?
I imagine you must miss him but hope he gets over to see you x
Awful night last night and same today they have put me on antibiotics but already after taking 2 I know why do not like them they make my breathing worse , headache and you feel tired as well as generally unwell
Not sure how long I have to take them for as Chemist are waiting for the Doctors to get back to them as the prescription said take one twice a day for 7 days yet they only put 6 antibiotics down to be prescribed which makes 3 days
So the chemist has sent 3 days to be going on with till they find out what the Doctors want me to take and if it is 7 days to send another prescription but the side effects I am hoping it might be 3 days rather than 7
How are you ?
Thank you so much for asking how I am I thought that was so kind x
Aww hun so sorry to hear hope you ok. Sounds like me. I been put on antibiotics for 3 days for a water infection and tablets for reflux. They sent my sample away to a lab and if my bloating dosent go down after 3 days i have to go back. X
I read your post about your fingertips swelling I don't have the answer but glad they have gone down I wonder if the heat and antibiotics could have had anything to do with it you just never know
You did well going to the gym with all this going of well done and hope you had breakfast
Aw thanks be kind your probably right was a combination of everything and yep I had breakfast don't worry π . Aw sorry to hear you feel terrible this weather don't help. X
I am not feeling much better they seem to take while to work on me and I have a feeling it could be 7 days as in the past 3 days have ever cleared it but we shall see
there is something weird going on here either with my phone or gremlins π€π₯΄I have tried to answer this post three times. I thought the first one went but when I looked to see if there where any comments I couldnβt find it, so tried again this morning and just finishing it off the screen changed and it totally disappeared and other posts came in !!!! So now Iβm trying again, so first things first are you any better? Answering you about how I am not to good, I am having bad problems with my spine and hip again GP said time for repeat MRI but she forgot I now have pacemaker so not possible!! so going for X-rays next week which are not as good. My anxiety and depression are getting worse even though Iβm trying to get out more but thereβs to many hours in the day to fill, and the people I know have their families which I donβt have so back to empty house, right enough wallowing and whinging for now at least Iβve still got my car and can get out take care xx
The antibiotics must be doing something they are attacking my stomach which the usually do so something else now to add to the list as always and like you I am struggling with my anxiety and feeling low so you are not on your own
I know x rays might not be as good but hopefully they will see enough and let us know when you get your results
Have you ever thought of leaving the radio on for when you come back in that is something years ago I used to do it helped rather than walking into a quite house
Hope you have the best day you can and you are coping with the heat ok x
You have a valid point we shall have to wait and see what happens and as it is Andy we are talking about you just never know try and sleep tonight don't get to excited x
Morning socialites! Think Iβm suffering overdose of strawberries and cream if thatβs possible. We grow our own garagette variety which taste like strawberries always used to taste. Anyone else with a hot weather food addiction?
yum !! English strawberry addict here but naked ones no cream, BUT this morning there just happened to be a small piece of walnut cake (which my friend gave me yesterday) sat on my work bench in plastic bag and I thought it was rude not to eat it so popped it in with my breakfast strawberries how naughty was that!!!π
Morning everyone from a very hot and sunny Scotland, if anyone has any tips to keep my house cool, particularly my bedroom I would be very grateful, as much as I like the sun it's no so good without air con π₯I have been keeping blinds and curtains closed but it is still like a sauna, my house is definitely built for cold wet weather. Char
Iβm not sure if this would work, but I know it works if air conditioning is used. In addition to keeping the curtains drawn, perhaps close the window and the door of your bedroom and just keep the fan on and running in an attempt to keep the cool air in the room. Worth a go maybe?
Unfortunately I don't have a fan, we don't usually need them up here but this year it's been exceptionally hot, I am thinking of getting one but no doubt by the time I order it normal weather will have resumed π the window only opens a tiny bit but I have been keeping the door and curtains shut but when I walk in its just a wall of heat, the sun hits the window from lunch time till it sets. I am off to Portugal next week and I am so looking forward to sitting under the Aircon unit βοΈπchar
Something tells me this weather will not settle any time soon, I expect it will get even hotter and reach anywhere between 40-50 degrees this Summer. Itβs one extreme to another. The winterβs are terribly cold now, and the Summerβs awfully hot. I think itβs safe to say climate change has fully kicked in now.
I have a man comes fortnightly to cut my lawn. I don't think he needs to bother. Never been this bad. I felt so ill the other day I took a sachet of dioralyte which helped a lot; don't know if it's a good idea but I reckoned I'd sweated o ut so much I should put it all back. Here's the lawn; the dog's sniffing at next door's cooking.
Not t o uching the lawn; there's nothing to cut anyway. He cut it too short last time but it will survive or not. NO great loss and easy to reseed for next year if necessary. Grass is usually tough enough to survive a drought.
We now get really mild winters compared to when I was young, it used to be below freezing and we always seemed to be up to our knees in snow, now it is rain and gales constantly, the weather has really changed. Char
It sounds like the weather has swapped from the chilly north to further south.I am in the central belt of Scotland, it's a lot milder here than in the Highlands but even up there they don't have the same amount of snow for skiing as there used to be. Char
In late afternoon I have been putting the brolly up in the garden and getting my kindl out. I usually read thrillers and serial killers π but at the moment I am reading a light hearted rom com, nice for a change to take my mind off the heat. char
This might not be a great idea, but I will say it. If you have a fan, you might try placing a dish of ice cubes in front of it, and let the fan air blow over the ice cubes toward you. It might give a little bit of cooler air.
A portable air conditioner might work too. You could easily set that up and use only as needed.
It is very difficult having heart issues in very hot weather, so I hope that you can get some cooler air soon. π
Thank you for your reply, I don't have a fan we don't usually need them in Scotland but I definitely think I will need to invest in one if the weather is going to continue like this, it's definitely no fun for us hearties when it is so hot at home at least abroad we have Aircon, sea and a pool to keep us cool. Char
I heard a good tip on βthis morningβ a while back. Get tin foil and stick it (with a bit of water wiped or sprayed over the window) to the window, shiny side facing outwards and it will help keep the heat out.
Also, open the window at night once the sun has gone down and put a bowl of ice in front of the window so the warm air will pass over the ice and help to cool the room (only works if thereβs a breeze and usually recommended placed in front of a fan but I read that you donβt own one.
Last tip, fill a hot water bottle about a third of the way and pop in the freezer. Place in your bed or on your pillow about an hour before bed to help drift off feeling cool and comfortable.
Hi thank you for your reply. I haven't heard of the tinfoil one before but I am willing to give it a try. We had heavy rain at tea time last night and thankfully it cleared the air a bit but it still very hot. Char
I hadnβt either and havenβt personally tried it yet as our fans seem to do the trick - I have ones that you put ice/cold water in and it blows humidified air out. One of the best Amazon purchases Iβve ever made and if memory serves me right cost about Β£15/Β£20
Morning everyone don't know about you but I didn't sleep that great last night too hot and my cat kept trying to sleep on top of me and made me even hotter πππ
Me neither. I havenβt been sleeping well since the weekend. The humidity is like something else in the night. Will become a zombie at this rate π§ββοΈ
Poor cat just wanted a cuddle & you kept pushing him away Yumz! Have you tried putting a spare pillowcase in the fridge before you go to bed, then if you are too hot during the night you can change your pillowcase for the one that is nice & cool - this might help you drop off / go sleep again - provided it stays cat free of course!
Yes I have the same problem acat on top of me and I get hot at night anyway even in the middle of winter so a cat on top of you is the last thing you need
Yes I have heard of that they feel there is someone about that way but when I was on my own I did not like coming back to an empty house obviously this was some years ago now so I would either leave my radio on or sometimes the TV that way it did not feel so empty when I came in and also I would think if a Burglar was about and they saw the TV on or heard the radio it might put them of thinking someone was in
Hope your mood is lifting a little mine isn't though x
My mum used to leave the heating on overnight in the winter for her budgie I told her it was unnecessary, and a complete waste of money. One morning we came down and it was really hot in the room and the bottom of the cage was full of feathers. Apart from its head the budgie was bald. My mum made me and my stepfather take it to the vets the next day, she was convinced it had mite and made us promise we would not allow it to be put down as she loved it so much. My stepfather told the vet he thought the bird had mite. The vet replied "It MIGHT have". I couldn't stop laughing. The vet gave us some powder to sprinkle on the bird. It eventually worked and the budgie lived another 5 years having grown a few sparse feathers which convinced my mum she was right!
When he first joined even though I thought strange human we have here I let him talk to me to make him feel welcome , I helped get his career in crap jokes popular and now this is how he repays me what can I say π€·π»ββοΈ x
Good morning everyone. How is the weather in your part of the world today? Here in South Devon we have light cloud and sun, feels a bit cooler out, but still hot indoors. I'm hoping to spend the day gardening. How are you going to spend yours?
It is cooler here thank goodness even though like you say a little hot inside but with the windows open you can feel a breeze we actually have just had a few spots of rain and then it stopped !
I have the trooping of the Order on at the moment while giving orders to my Husband in the garden but have a good excuse these antibiotics I am having to take are giving me the worst side effects but I have to try and take them all but struggling
I hope you get done in the garden what you need to and have a lovely day x
I wish I had someone to shout orders to re doing the garden. It needs so much doing and I really don't know where to start! Will try and get a gardener in to cut the hedges, my usual one didn't turn up to cut them last November and I can't bear to see them looking so straggly.
We had a few spots or rain too. I wish it would have a good pour down and give everywhere a good watering.
The antibiotics you're taking aren't Metronidazole are they? I refuse to take those tablets ever again as they made me feel dreadful.
I was a sun worshipper, but am now paying dearly for it by needing lots of small skin cancers removed. My latest one on my leg needs a skin graft! Take care, an old workmate had half of his ear removed because of skin cancer.
I've just been behind the greenhouse at the bottom of my garden trying in vain to get rid of ivy and brambles.
While I think of it, I know a way to kill ivy - vinegar, salt and a drop of washing up liquid mixed together. It worked on my ivy, but need to kill the rest of it now.
I second Andy in saying that i hope all you Dad's & GrandDad's out there have a good day β€οΈ.
And because I know there are Dad's who may be estranged from their kids & today might be hard to get through, I hope that you will be able to dig up a few cherised special memories to treasure for just a few moments today (without getting too upset) & to π for the kids & yourselves. β€οΈ.
-----
And for the rest of us, just a reminder that Father's Day cpuld also be a good chance :
- to say Thank you Dad, & / or Granddad too, for all that they do. And for all of their silly jokes too!
- to spend a few minutes remembering some nice / special memories of Dad's / Granddad's no longer with us.
- to try & forgive past hurts
- to reach out to try & re-build broken bridges while it's still possible to do so.
Well I assumed, if everyone is trying adhere to the updated rules, the social check-in thread would be renewed as agreed by the moderators and the forum members once a week.
The reason for that may be simple. For example, if a post isnβt trending, it is hard to locate on this forum. Furthermore, not everyone is familiar with all the other types of functions such as saving or pinning a post. These things may have contributed to it landing on the main forum.
I donβt think this one post has disrupted the harmony of this forum. Iβve been seeing and responding to heart related posts all week.
On the whole however, this recent change has been adhered to by the majority of members on this forum from what I have observed.
Yes, and I also said a majority have been adhering to the updated rules. Those who havenβt Iβm sure have have their own, perhaps very simple explanations as mentioned earlier.
Good point, I'll try to remember to redirect posts to the Social Check-in if I think it is a more relevant place. I would be interested in seeing how well the Social Check-in is working for the moderators.
I have always gone into the unanswered posts I leave it a few weeks especially if I do not have a answer hoping someone that does will reply
However if after a few weeks no one has replied I just ask the poster how they are doing now this then takes it out the unanswered posts and I have been doing that the last couple of days till everyone was answered so why your theory could be wrong I emptied it the best I could
Why has this debate yet started again I have no clue it gets tiring and the Community was just starting to look like everyone had settled down
I watch the news , people no doubt not alive at the bottom of the sea , the war , people losing people they love to cancer , heart failure and so much more and then I look on here and see the debates over posts and I think what ? really can we just remember at this moment how lucky we are and it makes me feel ashamed we can even be moaning or complaining about this when you listen to what is happening around the world
Now attack me for expressing my opinion no doubt someone will instead of been grateful we even have a site to come on and not at the bottom of the sea or living in fear when will the next bomb drop and lots more
Hey everyone been such great weather finally got down the gym been a week since I went π . Made sure I had breakfast and a cereal bar and plenty of water. Legs were sooo hurting so had to slow down a bit that seemed to help and treadmill was absolutely sweating and exhausted after that π π. Was great fun though! Hope your all keeping well, what you all up to today?
Yeah I have don't worry it's taken since Tuesday before I even got dressed had a bath and washed my hair have hardly moved of the sofa x π was a bit much washing my hair but I had too was so greasy! X
Aw sorry to hear the weather affecting your breathing π. How did the doctors visit go. Enjoy watching the news and have a lovely rest of your day hun take care hope you feel better soon x
Yeahhh definitely love a savoury snack to sweets, aw just been chocking on my crisp went down wrong tube aw made me cough sooo much and trying to talk after made me cough even more πππ
Iβve just asked my best friend whoβs Italian whether you have to pay to use the beaches. She responded with saying that if the beaches are private then there is a cost. Were the beaches you attended public or private?
You attack people who you don't agree with, you troll people.
Yes everyone is entitled to their opinion and not get attacked for it, but it does happen on this forum by you and others.
I'm sorry you feel that what's happening in the world isn't impossible, I've personally been glued to the news and haven't posted in a while for several reasons.
As you can see from your comment earlier, the new social check-in has not been actioned. What is it that you wanted to ask? Can you not ask it on here?
I think we just wanted a new one to get away from the arguing that restarted on this one after someone who doesn't usually want to play here complained there was no-one to play with!
I think we just wanted a new one to get away from the arguing that restarted on this one after someone who doesn't usually want to play here complained there was no-one to play with!
I sent a separate message to BHF to ask for a new one when the original one ran over. We could always try that again as sometimes they remember and sometimes they don't
I do hope this is not becoming an English lesson and we are started to be marked or I better get myself on the thick table if you still have it I shall be on it all the time x
