of all my problems AF. hip replacement. Arthritis .macular oedema. All diagnosed and treated privately , my useless G P phones to increase my statins ! Cholesterol 5.6. Yes a bit high but has never mentioned or asked about my general health. I am convinced they are on a bonus scheme for prescribing statins !

statin obsessed GP
In the UK medical professionals don't get paid for prescribing particular drugs... everything is controlled by various boards/authorities/etc.
mmmmm still think someone is profiting from this as well as drug companies
Most statins are made generically now so not all that much profit to the "big pharma" - but that's standard as drug patents run out.
I’m a tad confused - the NHS GP is accused of being incentivised by money to prescribe statins?
Erm what’s the private sector incentivised by again?
🤔
Iv read a similar comment on here before about dapa and the big pharma companies. Honestly, I have no idea. If you think meditation isn’t saving your life then don’t seek nhs advice in the first place!
The guideline cholesterol level for healthy adults is 5 or below and for those at risk 4 or below. You fall in the at risk group so you are too high! Nuff said!
I think you have it the wrong way round. Your reading definitely puts you in the "need for stations or dramatic change in lifestyle" category. Also, surely private health care by its very nature is the "in it for the money" group" even if your private doctor is a good one.
I do agree with you however, that GPs no longer seem to have any time for supporting the whole health of individuals and drugs are often prescribed too often,
Maybe your private cardiologist should have checked your cholesterol levels. Would you be complaining if he had found it to be high and not your GP?
The original poster @Bobbyalan seems to have left the forum!
They are being wise offering you statins. My cholesterol was at a similar level to yours, I ended up having two stents fitted as I had two bad blockages and the other arteries are also showing reasonable amounts of plaque build up.
It may seem that they are handing them out like sweets, but there is a reason behind that, they are effective in what they do and can prevent or slow down the blockage of your coronary arteries, plus the stabilisation of any current plaque you may have.
I was offered them 10/12 years ago at a fairly young age and thought I do not need those, I can manage things through lifestyle change, sadly that has not worked out.
All I can say is that nearly 20 years ago we moved and had nurse assessment with new GP and afterwards with no info at all I received a brown envelope through the post with nothing but a prescription for Simvastatin. Phoned to ask what is it and why has this been sent, was told had high cholesterol. Asked for figure, was told 5.2, told them my cardiac rehab course had told me normal range was 4.0 - 5.5 (15 years earlier mine was 4.8) and changed GP. New surgery agreed I did not need statins . May have been an isolated incident when statins were new but struck me as strange and unprofessional.
This looks like it may be another example of someone trying to wind up forum members as the original poster Bobbyalan is no longer with us.
