Hi all,
Just wondering if anyone has experience of intermittent fasting when you have permanent AF? I’m interested to know if it has reduced symptoms/made them worse/had no effect.
Thanks, Sheelagh

My understanding us that intermittent fasting is best avoided by anyone with an underlying health condition, excepting pre-diabetes. Have you tried removing trigger foods like caffeine, alcohol, chocolate and spicy foods from your diet. One friend who had bouts rather than permanent AF now is off medication, very rarely has a bout and has returned to swimming each morning.
hi
I have heart failure and tried intermittent fasting last year, and all I can say about it is that it was fabulous. Went for 16/8 mostly but sometimes managed to fast for a few days, don’t recommend that part to everyone, but when I am on the fast I was literally flying, brain sharp as a tack, feeling good, had energy and also lost tons of weight. Great for reducing insulin/glucose which can be the trigger for diabetes. So I recommend definetly but again it’s got to suit you and any health conditions. If your last food is 8pm the you only need to last to midday to eat and then you are fasting.people will tell you it’s not healthy etc but the human body was not designed for constant snacking, feast and famine is the key.
I have had Permenent AF for 7 years and I 5/2 fast for over 4 years and find it helps with weight loss providing of course you don't over eat for the other 5 days. My AF stayed the same except to say on fast days my resting heart rate reduced and I felt much better, so my 5/2 fasting is very much part of my routine. Cheers Roy
Dear You,
I do not have AF anymore but I do fast and have done for years, my Cardiologist knows about it and has not an option one way or other.
I do the eight hour window one allowing the body to rest for 16 every single day. During the 16hours I take no calories but plenty of fluids.
I won't go into what I get from it for that is for you to investigate and study { like all fasting } before you undertake doing it.
Don't be worried about asking your Dr/Cardiologist because it has moved from being a fad to having some proven benefits that they should be aware of.
Many on the Earth follow an extreme version for religious reasons, followed correctly they come to no harm.
But only follow the guidelines of your Dr.
Best of luck
Hi all, I never eat after my tea at 6.30 till 12ish the next day, even on holiday but I never seen it as fasting it's just something I have always done and because of my meds I can't eat between 9 and 11, am and pm. I never even thought to mention it to my consultant. Now I know how I am thin 😅 char
Hello Determined. I don't have AF but I've been fasting since Monday, one meal a day and I feel great. Like BigBrian says I have more energy and I feel totally switched on. I'm not going to keep doing it but I wanted a good start plus it stops me snacking during the day. So I have my evening meal at 6pm then that's it til the next night. Last year I was pre diabetic but through fasting I brought it back under control. I'm not massively over weight, I've put 1 stone 7lb on over a year due to being on steroids. I will carry on fasting during the week and relax at the weekend but not go crazy ha. I drink lots of water all day, I also have tea and coffee. Obviously everyone is different but I thought I would share my story.
I hope you get on ok 👍
