Morning all

Is anyone here fasting during this blessed month if Ramadan?

Are you diabetic as well had stent done or on heart meds?

Will be interesting to know you’re coping if fasting.

Thanks all.

Hello and welcome to the forum! The BHF have published an article on this:

If you are Type I then I believe you do not need to fast as it may worsen your condition:

Many thanks. I have read the article and so far I have managed to fast with good control on my blood sugar levels.

May I assume you are Type II then and eating a healthy diet in addition to watching the carbs?

Type 2 but on Insulin lantus and novo rapid. For the last 3 years GP put me on insulin and my control has improved greatly.

Just a thought. If you were not overweight/obese at time of diagnosis and did not respond well to oral medication you may be Type 1.5 (also known as LADA). A C-peptide test would confirm this.

Not overweight at all but been pretty active pre-diagnosis. Always played squash and kept fit. Think it’s do with change of country when I moved from Malawi 20 years ago. I’m of Asian origin. Was put on tablets. I was fine but since on insulin I am controlling the levels much better. Had HA Sept 2017 but was fine after stent and have been on weights training as well back to squash once a week.

Seems very much as if you could be Type 1.5. However, you are on the appropriate treatment which is what matters. An accurate diagnosis is academic really. Glad you are coping well with fasting.

Thanks. In regards to having an accurate diagnosis would that be my GP to request?

Most Type IIs are managed by their GP/practice - if this is the case ask your GP but he may refer you to a clinic. If you are under a hospital clinic ask the consultant. Around 20% of those initially diagnosed as Type II are actually Type 1.5!
