Hi everyone, my son has an ICD fitted and has a monitor for this, he is travelling for a business trip to Kuala Lumpur and will be there for 2 weeks, he has taken the monitor with him to set up whilst there, just keen to hear if anyone else has travelled with their heart monitor and had any issues or has any advice ?

Love from a worried mum x

Hi, my husband has an ICD he was told not to bother taking the monitor abroad as there's nothing the hospital could do for him so far away but to always check out where the nearest ICD clinic is where he is staying. The ICD manufacturers website should have a list of local hospitals/clinics that have ICD interrogation facilities.

Thanks Lezzers, my son has got the numbers and addresses for the nearest ICD clinic so at least he has them. Thanks for the reply x

Dear Worried Mum

Your son will always be a worry to you, that's what us sons do.

But one thing not to worry about is the amazing piece of machinery that he has inside him. Its there to help you stop worrying and for him to live his life.

If its anything like mine { pacemaker } then it will store any information it requires and then that can be downloaded on your sons return.

Tell him not to take the monitor with him, { not unless he needs the clock part } but make sure he has his Pacemaker card in his wallet and that information on his phone.

As others have said tell him to find the nearest hospital to his hotel/venue that deals with pacemakers { most do especially in a modern city that Kuala Lumpur is.}

I hope these answers allow you to relax a little,

Mums apron strings can stretch around the world, { he knows that, all us sons do }

Hi I travelled to Suffolk for a month and I was told it will make no difference if I take it or leave it home because it’s registered in London and they can’t do downloads from there but they will do it when I get back and if anything happens I should tell the hospital I’m taken to that I’m under Barts hospital and show them my card. They usually download once a week, as soon as I got back I contacted them and they did a download shortly after.
