Almost a result!

Happy to say that after a telephone consultation with my lovely GP she has referred me for a 24 hour monitor to try to pinpoint my palmpitations - which are random to say the least. She has also upped my bisoprolol to 40 mg. so I'm hopeing that might sort out my dodgy heart-beats. Which I've always had but never palpitations till January.

SO glad the weather has improved!

Keep smiling everyone!

Jane.

Hi  Bartie123

I’m glad to hear you’ve got a heart monitor coming up soon. It’s always nice when we have a GP who understand me and is empathetic!

Let us know how you get on with the heart monitor.

Hope you’re enjoying the lovely weather too.

All the best

Tos

Hi Bartie 123,

Glad your GP is listening to you & your concerns. Hope you don't wait too long to be called up for the monitoring.

Try not to worry in the meantime (although we all know how hard that can be).

Hi Bartie

You appear to be in good hands with your GP.

Are you really on 40mg of Bisoprolol? I thought the maximum dose was 20mg.

Yes, like Heartifact, I was told 10mg was the normal maximum. I'm on 1.25mg and can't imagine what 10mg would do to me let alone 40mg. 😯

I looked it up online to see that it said maximum dose for Bisoprolol 20mg per day. Like you I thought the maximum dose was 10mg. Perhaps you can take 2 x 10mg daily.

I was originally prescribed 3.75mg, but it gave me dreadful feelings of impending doom. It might have been down to my heart rate crashing into the low 40s, but possibly also the effect the medication had on my brain. I asked my GP to reduce the dose to 2.5mg, but he was reluctant saying he would like to get me onto 10mg (which he told me was the normal maximum dose), so I told him I'd chop the pill in half. Eventually after some harsh words, he agreed to the reduction, but I still had issues on the lower dose, so after that he passed me onto the practice Pharmacist. She was far more relaxed about it and I've been on 1.25mg for several years now, but even on that dose I feel it does have an effect on my exercising, so I take my time climbing the hills up in Scotland. 😀

Last Sept/Oct I was in hospital with the C word that can't be mentioned on here and pneumonia. My heart took off racing too and the young doctor in the ward wanted to start me on 10mg of Bisoprolol (can't remember whether it was once or twice daily), but I said no - too high and we settled for 7.5mg. When I eventually got home I rang my GP and asked if I could reduce it to 5mg, then a few weeks later reduced to 2.5mg, about a week ago I reduced it to 1.25mg daily and have been fine.

Glad your getting somewhere with your gp hope the monitor picks up where the palpitations are coming from. Palpitations are so annoying had them alot for the past few years on verapamil 40mg for them my last holter picked up ventricular Tachycardia, might be switched over to bisoprol not sure what dose yet.

That's all good news. It's good to feel cared for and in safe hands. That's a hefty dose of bisoprolol. Maybe a typo?

Hi Bartie123I am hoping it was a typo when you said you were on 40mg of bisoprolol? the max dose is 10mg a day!? I was in 7.5 at one point when I was really poorly . Hope you get to the bottom of it and you feel better soon
