Almost 7 weeks post bypass ๐Ÿ˜€

Has anyone else had involuntary breaths since bypass op?

Every so often I will omit a gasp , like a quick breath in and out with no warning of it coming ! Gave my husband a right fright the first couple of times I did it ๐Ÿ˜‚

Hi I started doing that after my heart attack. Its mainly when I'm lying down in bed. I thought it might stop after I have my OHS but maybe not ๐Ÿ˜€ x

I've never had this before , it's been going on for a few weeks now, maybe 5 or 6 times a day ๐Ÿ˜ณ X

I also never had it before. I haven't really taken much notice of how many times aday. I will start counting. I was presuming mine was due to getting more out of breathe. I will ask when I go for surgery about it. Maybe your cardiac nurse or gp can help or someone on here . I will be interested in the answers. Xx

I was presuming it was my lungs reinflating after the op,but will ask my surgeon at my post op consultation xx

Hi Birdy23. How are you doing after your op. I had those for about 6 months, only 1 of 2 a day. Now they stopped completely. I 've started doing my huffing and puffing exercises every morning and I think they helped. They used to scare me. Good luck with your recovery x x

Thanks so much for your kind wishes.Iโ€™m doing better now the infection has cleared up and walking over an hour ever

day. First time I did one of these breaths I got a right fright as Iโ€™d no idea it was coming ! Yes, hopefully they will gradually disappear over time xx

Hello :-)

Last night I was asleep in bed and woke with like a stopped breath just one and then went back to sleep fine and this afternoon I was feeling I was having a panic attack for hours

Maybe not the same but frightened me to

I think it maybe everything adjusting but you are doing so well , an hour walking is fantastic .

I walk up the garden and I have to sit to get my breath

I am sure you are fine but if you get the answer let us know so we can understand more what all this is about :-) x

Yes I am 7 weeks post op and I get then too, maybe 4 or 5 a week. My wife asked me if I was all right the first time, I call them my chest burps. ๐Ÿ˜€. They don't bother me now, sneezing however, ow, that is a different matter !! ๐Ÿ™„

They are weird aren't they ? Oh yes , sneezing , did that for the first time in 6 weeks a few days ago , I braced myself for it ! ๐Ÿ˜€

Hi. I havenโ€™t had OHS but widow maker HA late last year. Oddly enough I started these sudden โ€˜gaspsโ€™ a couple of months ago and to be honest I found them quite scary! Itโ€™s like I stop breathing then gasp for air totally involuntarily. Mine can happen anytime. I was afraid it might be lungs rather than heart (over reaction I know but always afraid of COPD which my sister and dad had ). I hope yours clears with time and would welcome any insights into this strange symptom

I've got a consultation with my surgeon on the 24th and I'll ask him then , hopefully he can solve the mystery ๐Ÿ˜€

Hi, Im 3 years post by-pass and will do this every now and again, its normally when i stand up to quickly, like my BP has dropped. My 'Gasp'is quite loud, so much so, that my son mimics me. Ive never been concerned about it, I thought it was just something i did every now and again xx

I still get this more than 2 years after CABGx3, I was told it was due to taking Ticagrelor as it is a known side effect but have stopped taking that over 1 year ago - it's like I sometimes forget to breath then take a big gasp, happens several times most days, medics unconcerned when I mention it
