Hypertensive heart disease

Hi everyone, I’m a 39 ,live in Edinburgh and just been diagnosed with hypertensive heart disease, harder/thicker left muscle, because of my high blood pressure..which was 155/85 and now after a week of intermittent fasting,no sugar and no salt it got to 129/83. Since January I’ve trying to check if something is wrong with my heart, because of the pain, chest tiredness.. I’ve seen a cardiologist here ,did a stress test -all good , did a 24 EKG(3 leads only) and they said everything is OK with my heart, did a troponin test was 0.05 (gray area) then waited 3 hours to do another one also 0.05,they said is probably from an infection. They pain was still there,i knew something was wrong with me,went to a cardiologist outside UK,did a echocardiogram and there she found the problem, but she was really fast in saying the diagnosis and giving me the medication. ‘You are not gonna have a heart attack, the wall is harder/thicker and need to take this pills all your life and that was it.

I didn’t have time to ask,how bad is it,what are my options to get better, because I’’ve read that the heart can be normal normal after a while if I keep my blood pressure down.

I still have stabbing pains,I’m shaking inside my body when I go to bed and weak up, dizzy when I lay down..I feel worst that I felt after going to the doctor and is annoying because After waiting and stressing to find out what I have this happens.

Can someone give me any advice, what to do ,if people had similar problems anything that could help.

Thank you,

Razvan

hello hopefully you will get a letter outlining diagnosis or request a report that will help, then you can ask further questions. Always frustrating when we don’t get clear answers.

Good luck.

What medication did they give you?

hey thank you for replying, I’m on Amlessa, but for UK she gave me Perindopril 4mg/ and Amlodipina 5mg, but I need to say I didn’t start taking the pills yet, seems like the changes I’ve made help me drop my blood pressure in 1 week and I will continue like this and do even more. I just ate and my face turn red,had some chest discomfort to be honest mentally I’m done, think this is torture. I’m willing to go to private and check what I have, but I cannot because GP doesn’t see the point, go to the private GP you need to fight for your wellbeing, to get to what is wrong with you. I’m only thinking that today is my last day, that something will happen to me.

I will try o get in touch with the doctor if she can give me more details, thank you.

I’d monitor BP over a longer period to see if change continues / remain the same.

good luck with private option.

oo definitely, I’ve started the second week with 130/85 in the morning and last Monday was 145/89… I will make my current life changes in a way of living. Thank you for the wishes

I’m curious about this. My understanding is that you can have raised pulmonary arterial pressure which isn’t necessarily the same thing as having high BP, and that pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is measured during echocardiogram and not with the BP monitors that you put round your arm. I stand to be corrected on this, but I think that PAH and high BP are two different things.

hi AL, well nobody told me about pulmonary arterial pressure and apologies if you are saying something and I don’t understand. The ky think I know and did was blood test for D-Dimer,Troponin acute and another 2 cardiovascular test-all OK,then in Scotland did 2x 24 EKG(3 leads) and a stress test- all good and then back home I did an abdominal echocardiogram-all good, then the echocardiogram ,all the heart is OK only that problem and having high blood pressure and of course told them that my mum had high blood pressure, but she was overweight and lot of other health issues, and immediately blame it on genetics.. I’ve reach to the private clinic to gave me a more concrete answer and still waiting.

But the shivers/tremors in my body at night , the flutter sensation that I have I don’t know if it comes from my heart when she probably does something that she shouldn’t supposed to do or my stomach or anxiety, the fact that is hard to swallow and need to drink water (something that didn’t happen before, only after I came from home) still worries me .

I’m not that knowledgeable but your BP doesn’t seem excessively high. The problem with these tests is that if you don’t actually see the report you’re often told “nothing to worry about” but that doesn’t necessarily mean everything is perfect. I know this because this is my experience as I have some left atrial enlargement and mitral valve regurgitation. Yet the consultant said the echo was OK! I have a lot of fluttering sensations and skipped beats but the cardiology people consider it trivial, and even with atrial fibrillation, once you have the diagnosis you’re just left alone to get on with it! I hope you can get some answers from your private appointment.

First off all sorry for you problems,I hope you found a way to find answers, because I surely don’t know what to do. When I call the GP,she is asking me , after I told her all the symptoms ‘So what you expect to get from your call today, what do you think is the problem’ , you can imagine the help you will get is zero. I will try ,to get to a private GP here and see if he can recommend me to another private cardiologist here, or I will try go to England. At this moment, my heart does some strange beats,I don’t know if he jumps or something,I cannot even explain the feeling,it feels like suddenly has a more powerful beat that the others, but I’ve check my BPM and nothing, normal. Everyday is a day that I think something will happen, I try to work a d life with this feelings,be happy in front of my daughter and when I see the doctors not involved in finding what is actually wrong, they inly need to give referrals and I will go,not even that, this is what give me anxiety and stress.

All the best and hope you get better and find a way to life normal.
