Feedback From Pre Op

Hi I had my pre op yesterday and I said I would update when I could so here goes.

About a quarter way through appointment I mentioned my infected skin under boobs and stomach. I previously showed a consultant but they didn’t say anything about it. Im absolutely gutted as nurse said they may not operate now (open heart surgery) as risk of infected skin getting into wounds/ drips could kill me.

I suffer with Psoriasis as well as infected weeping skin I have suffered for years seen numerous Dermatologists and nothing gets rid of it, some treatments can calm it down but it never clears.Nurse wants to see if I can have another Anaesthetic pre op and show them my skin the Professor who is doing my op is on leave this week but she has emailed him to let him know. Another surgeon was in clinic and he said he wouldn’t operate.

Nurse did carry on with pre op and said she would get in touch when she knows anything and may refer me to their Dermatology Department. I often get Strep A and have antibiotics I’ve asked on my Psoriasis group for any advice that others may have to help clear my skin. I do know that a lot of it is due to my weight I wash n clean the areas every day and apply creams to try n stop it getting infected I put cotton cut up pillowcases in the areas to try n catch the moisture.

I want to apologise in advance if I don’t reply to every comment as my last post I didn’t realise how many helpful people advised me I really do appreciate it sorry for long post but I did say I would let you know x

After showering, dry yourself with a towel and then use a hairdryer to completely dry under your boobs.

so sorry to hear your news legs hope the professor will go ahead with the operation. You build yourself up and then get this kick back keep fingers crossed. I am sure if it was really essential to go ahead then he would regardless. Keep positive all the best

Have you tried HC45 cream under the boobs? I suffered with that when I was overweight and it cleared it up very quickly. Occasionally came back but at the first sight of it I would use the HC45 and it would be gone. You can buy HC45 from most chemists.

My GP first prescribed HC45 for mine but now I just buy it over the counter from chemists. Only use a tiny bit at first signs and it normally clears it in a day or two. Good luck!

Ask your GP for a prescription strength NIZORAL cream. Comes in a tube and works almost overnight.Make sure the effected areas are totally dry before applying.

Trust me it works. I've been using it sporadically, mainly in the summer, for over 20 years.

Good luck

I used to suffer with this, especially in summer but now, every shower, I wash under my boobs with Nizoral shampoo, dry thoroughly and finish with a medicated powder. It hasn't been a problem since. Good luck and hope you get your op soon.

Hi has your dermatologist offered tablets to clear your psoriasis, I got offered them a few years ago but thankfully my psoriasis got better with light treatment. They are a type of immunosuppressant and it has to be closely monitored but I think they have good results it might be worth mentioning them if it would help to get ready for surgery. Mine has totally cleared because of my transplant meds but that might be a bit drastic 😅 I really hope you can get something done about it I was blighted with it for 30years it's a horrible thing char

Hi I’ve never been offered it my daughter is on it, it’s called Methotrexate. I want to try other options first as I’ve got other health problems but thank you for your help it’s really appreciated.

I’m so pleased that yours is cleared I’ve had it for over 50 years and it’s a nightmare that we have to put up with but didn’t think it may affect my op so fingers crossed I can sort it out.

Hi Shanty,

At least it was recognised at your pre op. A couple of months ago I had pre op and mentioned I’d got angina. I arrived for day surgery in the morning, at the hospital to have an anal polyp removed that might be cancerous. About 2.00pm the anaesthetist approached me to check on whether I’d been seen by a cardiologist and I told him I’m on the waitImg list. He would have gone ahead had a bed been available for me to stay overnight but there wasn’t.

Weeks later and I’ve had my angiogram 2 weeks ago and seeing colorectal surgeon 4 May and she says we should be able to reschedule my appointment at that meeting.

I hope you get your problem sorted and it sounds as if they are doing everything possible to do that

Linda x

Thank you for your reply it’s really appreciated and good luck with your procedure x

Hello :-)

It must feel like a blow to you but they will do the op even if they have to deal with the skin condition first and delay it

Take one day at a time and you will deal with it and come and talk with us when you need to :-) x

Hello Shanty 123; I've had Psoriasis all my life (now over 80!-"It won't be long now.... "I inherited it from Mater. It's caused by STRESS....mainly, from your nervous system. Also from chemicals inc soaps and artificial clothing. Unfortunately mine is in my Anus !!!! Can be painful !!!. I doubt it is an Infection as it can't be transferred to others by touch. Don't use scented soaps or chemical washing powder and tablets. Now the Good news. AND body care ,aqueous cream, XBC....Lanolin free. Good Luck, Wenlock.

I’m the most stressful person ever so that doesn’t help I have it from head to toe I never use anything scented as it burns my skin just water and non bio powder. Thank you so much for your advice it’s much appreciated.

I can relate with practically all of this, I am 65 and have had psoriasis since I was 11. It has varied in how bad it is, I have been hospitalised in the past.

I was on PUVA for a long time that is until they discovered that too much A rays are very bad for you, I have had the B rays on and off but for me there is nothing as effective as the sun.

My problem is I am a very voluptuous woman and have suffered since I had boobs with problems, luckily it is dry so they managed to go ahead with my bypass in 2017.

I really think you need to speak to your GP or practice nurse so you can sort this out as it would be ridiculous if they won't go ahead with a serious operation because of this.

My skin is quite bad at the moment but mainly on my 'trunk' especially my thighs and buttocks but I'm off to Orlando in a couple of weeks and am hoping 2 weeks in the sun will sort things out.

I just use a coal tar treatment to help although the only thing that works (apart from the sun) is PUVA or UVBR (Ultra violet B rays)

Good luck in using some of the recommendations on here, it can't help to try.
