Has everybody experienced any side effects on Ezetimibe.

My mam was prescribed this in March 2022 after suffering serious side effects on statins. Following a successful miteral valve op and single by pass in December, all the same symptoms are coming to a head again. Pains in hips and legs, cramps, tender lower legs, also finding it more and more difficult to get about. As far as her heart surgery is concerned her progress appears to be good. It's her legs that are holding her back now. She stopped taking it after speaking to doctor. Just hoping this is the problem.

Muscle pains are listed as a serious side effect so it could be that is what is causing your mum's problems. Taking medication is supposed to help people not make their life a misery. And if you are 'getting on bit' and cholesterol reducing meds are causing you problems maybe its better to consider stopping taking them, balancing the quality of your remaining life against the possibility that your life may be extended if you continue to take them. My Aunt was prescribed statins in her 70 s (she's already had at least two heart attacks) but because she suffered side effect she decided to stop taking them against the doctor's advice , but in spite of that she lived a full life to the age of 95.

I take Ezetimibe 10mg alongside 80mg Atorvastatin and no side effects fortunately. I was worried about the gastric ones particularly but I’ve been fine.

yes I had problems with it a few years ago. Am now waiting to speak to the lipid clinic to try an alternative to statins

Hi Yes, I had the same problems with this drug. Aching the same as the statins. Having a holiday from it at the moment. It made me feel dreadful. Deciding whether to try again in a month or so. Meanwhile I've changed my diet to more whole foods and less processed and also eat 4 walnuts a day apparently they help to lower your bad cholesterol.

Thanks for your reply. How long did it take to get out of your system? Mam says her legs are like to lumps of wood. Finding it very difficult to move about

Oh so sorry your Mum is feeling like this. It took about 3 weeks to feel better. It does carry on working for some time in your system as my Doctor did a fasting cholesterol blood test to check the medicine was working to lower the levels. It made a small difference of 1 point to my levels. I have heard for some people it just does not make any difference to your cholesterol levels, so maybe check if it is working as well. It is supposed to start working after 2 weeks. A friend of mine suffered the side effects for a year without a blood test and found it wasn't doing anything for him at all. It works in a different way to statins. I was on both stains and this drug so pure agony for about 6 months before I came off it. Sending best wishes to you both. xx

I really suffered on that drug so stopped it. I was prescribed a new drug for people who can’t tolerate statins it’s called Bempedioc Acid. It’s supposed to be the new wonder drug. Unfortunately it had the same effects as all the other statins. After having two heart attacks I really wanted it to work. I was in agony so I stopped taking it.

I take Bempedioc Acid - known as Nilemdo with absolutely no Side effects. I suffered awful on Atorvastatin. Did you stick with it for a while? I can honestly say its not affected me, but we're all different. Shame you didnt get on with it.

I took it for 5 days and it was agonising pain. I may well try taking it again but maybe cut it in half and try that.

Thank you for taking the time to reply. Mam has stopped it but will probably take a while to get out of her system.
