Heavy Lifting After CT Angiogram. Dye Test Only

Hello again. A totally useless question. Apart from worrying about this CT contrast test on Wednesday my lovely Cardiologist has said I can't heavy lift for the day after. He knows I look after sheep. It would appear that the test cannula will be in my dominant hand/wrist side which is my right side. However I always heavy lift on my left side so is that going to be ok. I've lifted one ewe today (she was on her hind legs supported by me with her horned head tucked safely in my armpit) and also had to get hold of two big Ram lambs no problem at all. I'm just a bit confused as to why no heavy lifting for a day. *hides behind sofa and awaits telling off from group friends 🙄

Afternoon Jane,

When you have your angiogram done they go through your artery in your wrist ( well they did with me) after it’s finished they put a pressure wrist band on with a little window over the spot where they went in. This is to check for bleeding. So I would imagine he is telling you not to lift anything for the next day just to make sure that it’s healed over you don’t want a bleed from the artery.

Reading how you handle your sheep he is going to be concerned ( me too) that you don’t set it off bleeding again.

Let me know how you get on.

Best wishes Pauline xx

Oh thanks so much Pauline. Yes I will be careful. 😊

Hmmm yes. Have to say I agree 100 percent with Pauline. You will also be a rather tired (you usually have a sedative as well which does help with the anxiety about the procedure) and honestly you should take it easy for a couple of days. Try not to worry (I wrote a post about my angiogram experience which you may have read - I was very nervous but honestly it wasn’t as bad as I had feared). However your arm could be bruised and whichever side you use for lifting if you could have some help with the sheep for at least 2 days I think it would be wise.

All the best,

Sarah

Thanks so much to you too Sarah. I'm very lucky in that they are extremely tame. Too tame really. Everywhere I am. They are 🤣. Rams are the ovine equivalent of the neighbourhood curtain twitcher. All-seeing and know everything. Hilarious x

Ha ha - now have picture of the rams hiding behind and peeping out from behind the curtains 🤣! X

Hi I would guess that you are also on blood thinners and/or asprin? If so they will be concerned about bleeding from the wound. Also, when I was released after my heart event they were very unhappy with me carrying a small carrier bag with my dirty washing to the main entrance! They didnt offer to carry it for me however!! So I think they will be even more concerned about you and your sheep. Having said that, as I live on my own there was no alternative but to get on with things. Hope things go well for you.

No, luckily not on any blood thinners.

it's only for a day day, and I think it's necessary because yes the incision is on the artery so it would bleed more readily. I add sedatives for my angiogram and it was no problem at all the CT scan is also very easy but sedatives probably help....good luck x

Hi, it’s a CT angiogram you are having so they won’t be going into an artery. The cannula will be in a vein.I’m assuming it’s precautionary so that you don’t go straight from the CT angiogram to lifting sheep.Good luck x
