My mother recently had a TAVI procedure which resulted in her requiring an emergency permanent pacemaker fitted. Since being discharged (a day after her Op) her breathlessness has limited her ability to even make it to the toilet. We have since been told that the pace maker lead has caused a leaky valve on what was a healthy valve on the right hand side of her heart. My mother is now in a worse state of health than she was prior to the procedure. Has anyone else experienced such complications and if so what was the solution given ? Thanks in advance from a very concerned son.

Hi BWEL
I’m really sorry to hear what you and your mum are currently going through and I can really feel your worry.
I don’t have any personal experience of your situation but I wanted to send you both strength and I hope that something can be done to help make your mum more comfortable again very soon.
Have you requested a review with the surgeon to understand exactly how this happened or contacted PALS to express your concerns? Please accept my apologies if I’m treading old ground here for you.
Thinking of you and your family and I hope a swift resolution is imminent 🤞🏼🤞🏼
Best wishes

Sadly there is always some risk involved with any medical procedure, it's not the first pacemaker complication that's been brought up here so hopefully someone with direct experience will be along soon.
You've clearly spoken to the doctors to have this investigated as the cause of the breathlessness has been found - they should have either offered a follow up to give you solutions or offered them then and there.
If this hasn't happened, then call your mother's consultant/secretary to find out what the situation is.
