Tavi replacement aortic valve

I'm under Brompton hospital for severe aortic leak (regurgitation) and moderate aortic narrowing (stenosis). They have been looking after me since 1997. I also have AF and restrictive lung disease because of kyphoscoliosis, curvature of spine. My lung function is way too poor to have valve replaced by surgery. I had all the tests for TAVI (replacement via artery) back in April. Usual route for TAVi is via artery in groin, but because of body shape it is too difficult. Main reason it needs doing is because at some point, heart is not going to be able to cope with the leak. Also my breathing is getting much more difficult. Saw vascular surgeon in June, and he agreed it could be done via carotid artery. I saw an anaesthetist last Friday (14th Sept), and he thinks it is OK to go ahead, and he is going to approve I have it done under General anaesthetic rather than local. It will be much easier for me and the team doing it. Am just waiting on a date now. Am very nervous, but it needs to be done. Not sure how much a new valve will improve my breathing, although my cardiologist thinks it will definitely help a bit, but it will protect my heart from working too hard with the valve leak. Will keep you all updated. Has anyone on here had this done?

Hello I hope you are well. I had my new valve February 28th 2018. I also went to Brompton. They are a fabulous hospital. If I can help in anyway way feel free to ask. I was so scared before my op.

Keep strong

Thanks Keely. It certainly is an amazing place and I trust them all completely. Did you have your valve via tavi? I’m pleased they’ve agreed on GA. thought of having it while awake even though I wold have been doped up was daunting. Jean

No I didn’t I had a routine op. Oh my I don’t think I could even imagine having something like this done being half awake. No way. This site helped me so much even now. Because everything little thing I feel I put it down to my heart or the meds so it’s good to see other people’s experiences. Before my op I worried about all sorts and silly things I didn’t want to ask doctors so if u want to ask anything feel free.

How did you get on? Hope you’re well. I’ve just recently been diagnosed with a moderate leaking bicuspid valve. Went for a TTE on Friday and going for a cardiac mri scan on Monday. Not had further results yet but not sure about anything.

How is it done via keyhole? That isn't TAVI but is it just as simple.
