Happy birthday 🥳 soon, my birthday is coming up soon also, but I don’t drink. I’ve never liked it, but I can’t see why you can’t have a small one. I have dilated cardiomyopathy and heart failure the last time I had a sip of champagne at a wedding I felt dizzy, I think it’s my meds plus I don’t drink, it might be different with you. Maybe someone else is better placed to advise you.

Thank you and happy birthday to you too. I am not a real big drinker either but thought a very small glass might do but it's ok if not allowed 😊

I’m sure there’s no problem having a cheeky one. 😌 you seem dejected, one won’t hurt. I went online and it said you can drink 1 month after a heart attack.

Thank you. I do feel low since my heart attack but having counselling to help.

I was told I could drink, within accepted guidelines, following my HA back in November. Funny thing is since then I've not actually fancied one. I stick to zero alcohol beer nowadays.

Hello :-)

I was 60 at Christmas but I do not drink at all so it never bothered me

I would check what it says on the packets of meds it usually says if you cannot drink alcohol with them if so then I would not

If they do not say that then a small one will not harm you everything in moderation

Have a wonderful 60th Birthday :-) x

Dear You

I was told that I could drink in moderation, but to be honest with you the times I did made me feel a little odd so Ive stuck with Zero alcohol beer which I must say has come a long way since it was first invented.

The main part is have a great birthday I have one coming up as well, so April babies were popular.

Glad to hear that you sort help in the way of counselling, I really hope that it works for you.

Please remember we are here for you as well if you ever need to talk.

Take care

A little bit of everything or so they say. Enjoy yourself, have a bit and if it doesn't affect you have another few gulps! And they say red wine is good for the heart! Happy birthday!

As long as your medication doesn't say not to mix then I see no reason why not. Moderation is the magic word.

I tried a low alcohol wine last Christmas, as fed up with feeling left out while others enjoyed a glass of wine. I only had a couple of small mouthfuls and it made me feel really weird.......not a nice feeling...it was quite scarey.....like some thing ad was about to happen.

(I have permanent AF though)

It depends on which medications you are on - I would ask the GP. Your heart attack was very recent so the heart is probably still recovering. Non alcoholic options are a great idea. They’ve come a long way. I gave up alcohol for lent and I haven’t missed it - Seedlip spice with tonic and a wedge of lime is refreshing and feels like the real thing!

Perhaps try zero % beer? My husband tried some as he was the driver and said it's actually very nice! Happy Birthday

Happy 60th. It's up to you

I drink around 8 X 500ml cans a week 4 at a time 6 if I am feeling good.

I only drink beer, very rarely spirits. I am 76 this year and I am not going to change now. I enjoy a beer so why not have some enjoyment in the rest of your life. But it is your call, me I more or less eat and drink what I want and enjoy my life, we are only here once this is not a dress rehearsal for next time.

One caveat maximum ABV 5.0 % normally 4.2 if I am having a Tribute lol

Regards

Yes I like a few beers at the weekend, 3 or 4 of those small bottles or 2 500ml tins of Guinness on Friday and Saturday night. Not drinking for the last few weeks as trying to sort my acid reflux out after change of PPI. I am 72 and for me it does not seem to cause any interactions with the meds but I know it can so its a personal decision. Happy birthday.

Yes, enjoy yourself. I would only say drink it slowly so you can monitor your self in that you don't get tipsy.

Ditto my husband who rattles with meds is 60 next week. He does not usually drink at all but as Paul the apostle said "take a little wine for thy stomachs sake". I am sure that a little tipple won't matter too much. All the best

I take several heart medications for heart failure and my heart failure nurse said it was ok to have a glass of wine a night. I’m sure you can have one drink after all it is your 🥳60th. Hope you have a great day.

Hi Sleaford, I’m not presuming to advise you on this matter, but giving my own experience. When I’ve let my cardiologist/doctors know that I have a glass of wine a few days in the week, and a G & T occasionally, they have never advised me not to. I don’t know what medication you’re on, but I’m on maximum HF meds. It doesn’t affect me adversely, but you have to be guided by your doctors. I wish you a wonderful time on your special day. Happy Birthday. 🎂🍨 PS. I’m heaps older than you. 😊

When I read about all the evils of drink, I gave up reading! Seriously though, as your heart attack was only two months ago and you sound as though you are well enough to be celebrating your 60th birthday, I really would not risk upsetting your recovery in any way. Sorry to be a boring old heart, but best wishes for a lovely birthday.

Thank you and I am beginning to think a soft drink is the best option

Have a lovely birthday and do have a drink and a piece of cake. I had a HA 3 months ago and was advised not to drink. I have tried non alcoholic wines/gins and beers. Some are nice and some are an acquired taste!

I was told that in time I can drink in moderation but it was better not to drink whilst I was on all these new meds so I would know what the side effects were if any. (I’m in my early 40’s).

I hope to have a proper drink at 6 months. Then I’ve given the heart some time to recover and the meds to work.

Have a great Birthday :)
