I have been away for a long time of this excellent association, posting and reading the posts from you all incredible people.
I had a HA 3 years ago( 31st of March) . I was very lucky. Have two stents. It has been hard in some ways but I have the opportunity to deal with all my health issues.
In one week from today my husband and I are going abroad to Mexico to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. I am quite anxious and scared about the long journey, 10 hour flight.
Any recommendations or comments I will appreciate them very much.
Thank you so much

I can't comment on preparation but hope you have managed to secure adequate travel insurance, for to travel without it is very unwise.
I had bypass surgery nearly five years ago. I'm just back from the Caribbean and regularly take long haul flights. There's no dodging the fact that nearly any flight involves a small but additional risk. Once in the air we're hours rather than minutes away from specialised medical care, in particular stenting facilities.
Proper health insurance is a must, some people will also require a fit to fly letter from a GP. But at the end of the day we all need to make a choice about the risks we're willing to shoulder in order to live the lives we want.
I've been to Mexico many times, for both work and pleasure. The food is incredible, the history, culture and scenery spectacular, and the warmth of the people is amazing. In my opinion it's a risk well worth taking. Best wishes for a happy holiday!
What are the additional risks with regards to flying with stents? Something to do with the pressurised environment?
I had a stent in December. Is it too early to be thinking about going away from a physical perspective? Mentally I’m not sure I’m there yet anyway but just thought I’d ask.
Sorry for the delay in replying, but I've been away myself. As far as I know stents are fully capable of withstanding any and all of the pressures they'll encounter during air travel. Check with your GP if you're concerned but I think you'll be just fine.
Thank you so much for your comments. It is the truth about taking risks. I have been so scared to travel long distances that this time I just can not believe that I am about to go to Mexico. Everything sounds lovely. Hopefully we will be there enjoying ourselves and without any complications.
