stomach pains at night

I have had stomach pains at night for a very long time. Nothing has ever been diagnosed despite many tests. It never seems to happen in the day.

Does anyone have these problems and was there a diagnosis please?

hello and many apologies if over simplifying and you’ve no doubt tried everything, anything to do with sleeping position or bed / support? Just something to exclude? Hope you find a solution looks like this has been an issue for you for some time looking at your previous post.

Sorry this doesn’t actually answer what you asked.

But I’d add when I was pregnant I was told to sleep on left so baby didn’t put pressure on organs. Unfortunately sleeping on left is a no go now with heart issue.

not sure if you got my reply but thank you for your message. I will look at it soon.

Do you take medication? For example if you take low dose dispersible aspirin before you go to bed that could cause stomach pains due to it irritating the stomach lining.

Check out Gastrocardiac syndrome, maybe linked to your symptoms.

thanks. Well worth considering. On lack of any other diagnosis that may be it but GPS or consultants do not seem aware.

I have read a great deal about Gastrocardiac syndrome now. It makes great sense and fits with all my issues. Why at night? Stomach movement in bed causes it and hiatus hernia whichI have contributes.

Thanks for telling me. Now how do I progress it? I will certainly try.

Well its a little bit of a grey area in uk, I have crohn's/ibs and have never suffered to bad over the years but since having a pacemaker fitted I cant do anything strenuous like heavy lifting, running for a bus or walking up steep hills. All tests done by cardiologist are negative, but he can see I struggle so now its wait for Gastroenterologist, so ask your cardiologist gp for referral/ There is a Group on Facebook called Roemheld Syndrome support Group you can ask more questions or brows. I hope you and I can get it sorted

I have IBS for over 10 years. I had all the tests and nothing else came up, ergo IBS.

The pain is in the large intestine. Heart meds certainly can make it worse.

I take Ispaghula husk and mebeverine which help

Is it excess stomach acid? Has proton pump inhibitor med been considered?

Have you tried stopping Lanzoprole? I have been on Aspirin for years without any PPIs.

in reply to ChoochSiesta

I would have thought that a PPI would have a calming effect on the stomach rather than the opposite since they are usually prescribed for gastric problems such as reflux disease or to counter the irritating effect of some medication. Since we don't know what other meds the OP is taking that's something to discuss with the GP, although if its only low dose aspirin I would have thought a PPI is unnecessary but that's only my layman's point of view.
