I've been taking Atrovastatin since my HA about 6months ago ....and I have been taking it with the half a dozen other tablets first thing in the morning..............I've just noticed I'm supposed to be taking it at night! ( not proud of not reading the instructions properly!) As far as I know I dont feel any worse for it but..................anybody know why we take it night?

I believe the nighttime is when the body / Liver produces most cholesterol hence more effective taken at that time !

Because the body makes most cholesterol at night.

Edit: Oops, Dovaston was quicker on the draw!

Generally speaking most statins should be taken at night however Atorvastatin (lipitor) can be taken at any time of the day but keep to around the same time for each dose. Pharmacist told me this and it is also stated on the lipitor.com site.

Have always taken it in the morning. It is the one statin that can be taken in the morning apparently.

Well thanks everyone..........diversity of thoughts but it does seem as though I haven't done anything too drastic by taking it in the morning.......so far! Thanks again

You may have been advised to take atorvastatin at night as it may interact unfavourably with one of your other medications. I currently take lansoprazole and atorvastatin and due to them interacting I have to take the lansoprazole first thing in the morning and my atorvastatin at night.
