Hi everyone. I have got copd and asthma but for the past few weeks have had episodes of tachycardia and abnormal ECGs at my docs surgery. I have now been referred for a holter monitor. Just wondered if anyone knew how long the wait is for this thanks.

Hi!

I’ve had to do one privately as I was told it would be more than 6 months on the NHS recently. I previously had a holter monitor on the NHS in 2021 and I think it was only a 2 month wait back then. If you’re feeling really unwell, I would either speak to your GP to expedite the appointment or contact PALS at your local hospital.

Good luck :)

Hi Sue had one last week came in the post. Fitted myself dead easy to do and wore for two days without any issue then posted it back in the attached envelope. I took less than 2 weeks from my Cardiologist ordering it. That was High Wycombe hospital if that helps your region make take longer. I did have one privately a year and a half ago exactly same as the NHS one but £300 dearer. Best wishes to you

Hi, I had to wear a 48 hr one which I did last week. It was easy - quickly fitted by hospital. I waited 8 weeks. I am told the results will be with my GP in 7 to 20 days.

I had one three weeks after my visit to A&E with atypical chest pain and follow up in cardiology plus cardiology nurse phoning with result within 10 days. It will probably depend on where you live/ hospital and which route you are accessing the system. Hope it doesn’t take too long!

I think it depends on where you live i am having a 24 hour one fitted today and have only had to wait 3 weeks i have to go to the hospital and have fitted then go back tomorrow to have taken off

I was referred to cardiology in August 22 and had a 24hr Holter in September. When I chased the hospital for the results I was told 12 weeks. When I chased again I was told that the results would be reviewed by consultant and reported at appointment - rated routine. However the appointment would be some time as they were still working through the backlog from 2021 - this was in January 23! I sincerely hope that someone has checked the results and decided there is nothing urgent! I have requested the results but that had to done through an access to records request which, surprise surprise, is now overdue on the 30 day turnaround target. Conclusion? It would appear to depend where you are and, hopefully, how urgent the problem is. Don't be shy - chase them up so at least you are not waiting in a complete vacuum of information. Good luck

I had a 24hr holter in October 21, I literally only waited days for that and an EKG. Then I waited. After 3 months I rang the cardiologist's secretary. It seems that the results had never been sent to them for either test. They did then manage to get them, but I think that's a bit of a shambles

Hi I've just had one from St Thomas's in London, approx 3 month wait.

Just had a letter with a date to collect mine at the end of March, referral by cardiologist was at the start of September (and I chased it up in Dec just to check that the referral had gone in) so 7 month wait here!

It does vary. My mum, in a different health authority, had one after a six week wait but will be waiting approx 12 months for an echo cardiogram (age related heart failure maybe). I (out of the blue heart attack May 2022) following 4 month follow up phone call with Cardiologist waited 2 months for an echocardiogram but estimated wait time in excess of 6 months for Holter monitor. It was worth phoning to get an idea of time scale as I then stopped worrying that I'd been missed.

I was referred for one, via my GP, after a second A&E visit for heart related issues in June 2022.

I received a letter a few weeks later to advise that the current wait time was 45 weeks and that they (the cardio team) would be in touch nearer the time.

After two further A&E visits in October 2022, by GP contacted the cardio team again, to request the trace be expedited and I had an appointment to be fitted with the Holter 4 weeks after that.

I had the results 4 weeks after the test and am now going through further testing - had a CT scan in January this year and awaiting an appointment for an echo-cardiogram.

IT depends on your area and what it's for. In December I waited just 8 days. I had been to urgent care with thousands of ectopic beats

Good Evening Sueysue.I was already an inpatient staying in the Hospital.

I had mine done on week 3and wore it 1st for 48 hours then for 4 days.

As I was already an inpatient My results were given to me in the Evening of the 4th day.

I hope that you manage to not have long to wait to be given the Holter.

Regards

Michelle
